Hi All my nuvi 1300 takes about a min to get the birds. I thought I read that it is only supposed to take about a couple of seconds. Everything else seems to work properly. Im not sure what do do, if anything. Thoughts?
Thanks for the help
P.S. I HATE that security crap. I don't even bother posting much any longer because of it. When I joined this site that mess wasn't there.

If the unit has been off for a while it may take a little longer. Most cases less then a minute.

The only thing I'm asked for is my user name and password.

Both my units take a couple of minutes to display a street map as they are working through 2 or 3 GB of mp3's.
No idea what security stuff you are referring to. Did you change your computer's internal settings at some point. As others noted... ID and password is all I ever see and that is only if I've been off for some time. Usually I'm recognized straight off but not sure if that is because of a cookie or the way I have my browser's password saver set.

CAPTCHA?

You mean the CAPTCHA? Once you've entered it once on a particular PC it doesn't seem to ask again. If you previously logged in from a different PC it asks again. Prevents SPAM from winding up on the board.
I had two Nuvi 350s and without the "hotfix" feature and they'd sometimes take many minutes to lock even if they were off for less than a few hours. My newer 1490T with hotfix locks in less than 10 seconds (never really timed it) even after being off the whole night. I love it.
I think the 1300 should have the hotfix feature. Even if you won't use the GPSR, I'd suggest just leaving it plugged into the lighter socket, so that that it turns off and on with the vehicle. If you let it move locations before you turn it on again the hotfix feature won't help much, and it will take a much longer time to lock.

Hi all,
I guess I should have been more descriptive. Im refering to that darn super frustrating crap of having to type the code in when ever you want to post a message. You get the picture with the drawn letters and you type the letters into the forum in order to post your message. I HATE that inconvenience and hope there is an especially hot place in hell for who ever put that system in place!

That is interesting. I have never had to type in the masked code at this site. I didn't know they used it. If I have to enter it after I hit the "Post Comment" button, I'll send an update.
As for the time to acquire satellites, one minute is good. My 750 can take anywhere up to about 5 or 10 minutes to download all the needed satellite data if I'm moving and it has been off for a day or so.
easy

mw,
Don't you think you are being a little harsh? It is just a method to help protect the site.

No, I do not.

Nuvi 1300WT GPS = 30 Seconds for 8 Sats with 20' Accuracy..!
Just took my Nuvi 1300WT GPS outside from where it had been sitting on my shelf for the last couple of weeks. It took just a second or two more than 30 seconds to acquire 8 sats and have a accuracy factor of 20 feet. As far as I'm concerned you can't get much better that that for the time involved.
In the past if I waited until all the sats were acquired it took about a minute or so.. and was accurate to 10 feet.
