Garmin nüvi 1490T - Looking for opinions

I rent cars periodically. I was thinking about picking up a nüvi 1490t (refurb) for such occasions.

It kind of reminds me of my old StreetPilot but in a smaller package. I like:
- Multiple point routing
- FM Traffic

I've read some people having reliability issues and was wondering what the general take was from those who own them.

So, if you've had one for a while, how does it perform? Any issues? Anything weird like, "It freezes up every week!"

Thanks.

Garmin MP3 models

What are some of the other models that still offer the mp3 player feature?

Just go to the Garmin product list https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134, expand the feature column and put a check beside MP3 player.

1490T

If you don't want or use the FM transmitter or MP3 player the 1490T is a no brainer....great unit...

Okay

It's okay. The nice features are already heavily advertised including the big screen. For me, the biggest issue that made me think of returning it each day I for the first 30 days during the return period was the lack of map detail (tunnel vision). I miss my nuvi360 which would show lakes, neigborhood names etc. as I would drive past them. Now I just see a silly pink line driving in a tunnel.

I did not have any freezing issues or anything, but not very happy with bluetooth. The listener can almost never hear clearly. Well, given the choices - I'm keeping it. 765t is more to my taste but have heard so many negative things about it that I ended up keeping my 1490t.

1490t ?

for the money, i will two 1450, more accurate and so far has not freeze up yet. i did consider the 1490t, but the only benefit was the blue tooth which i do not need, iam extremely happy with my 1450 and saved 100.00 dollars in the process.

After more than a year with it, still does weird things

Tonight, southbound on I-75 around the 28 mile marker in Michigan, the unit suddenly turned off and then turned itself on again. Not, sure, but this may have happened once before on a previous trip. Will be back in Detroit for the Woodward Dream Cruise in two weeks, so I'll be sure to note if it doesn't like that stretch of highway once more.

SD loaded POIs won't show up in the menu.

Should be under the custon poi Icon. Search around ..you'll find them. I've had my 1490T for about 2years. Love it. My first one rebooted a few times... (firmware problems) I informed Garmin and they had me send it back no questions asked. Great service.

If the price is right

The unit is an excellent buy

I like it. There are some annoying feature gaps, but they are on all Garmins not just this unit.

Was having some map drawing problems, but yesterday deleted all voices except English. That freed up a lot of drive space and now the map draws and recalculations hum along.

Hard not to like it.

1490 opinion

Brad - Sorry I'm a little late on this but for what it's worth I've had my 1490LMT for about 3 months and it's great...no glitches, freezes or problems. In short, in every respect the unit works as advertised. I do agree with a couple of the other contributors here that I miss seeing the nearby street names that my old unit displayed but other than that it's great! The lane assist is an extremely helpful feature and the red light/speed camera warnings you can get here perform flawlessy. Route planning, and the blue tooth features also work well. Personally, I have not been in a situation yet where the traffic feature has been able to show its worth but all in all in my book this unit is a winner!
