New Mio c220 introduced

Fremont, Calif. — Mio will introduce its least expensive portable GPS device to date, the DigiWalker C220 at a suggested $249.

Mio's C220.
The C220, Mio’s fourth U.S. personal navigation device (PND) since it entered the market a year ago, offers a 3.5-inch touch screen and maps of the United States preloaded on an SD card. It has 3.5 million points of interest (POI) and a pedestrian mode that adjusts for one way streets or taking shortcuts through a park, said the company.

The product is shipping now and will be sold through stores including Circuit City, CompUSA, Fry’s Electronics, Staples and Pep Boys.

Is worth 100 dollar extra compare to c310x?

It cost 100 dollar more compare to C310x. Is it worthwhile?

going away?

I've been told that they will discontinue the 310, and are coming out with a full line of x20's. I have already been told by tech support at Mio that they will not be producing anymore software updates for the 310 series...

Is it better than nuvi?

Just wonder, this new Mio C220

NOPE

It's an entry level GPS unit. It doesn't even have all the features/options of the 310.

Reviewed on CNET

CNET did a review on the C220. They said the screen is terrible. It was all glasre at all angles and they only recommended it for night use.

Yep

I've looked at it and am not impressed. There are four other Mio models coming out this year, I'm waiting to get a look at them, but for now I'm staying with the good ole C310x...

C220

Hi Robin,
I've heard mostly good things about the c220. The speed is very fast and the maps are MUCH better. The worst downside from what I see is the sound volume is a bit low. Have you actually tried the C220? Around here the C220 goes for $180.00 to $200.00 a good deal for the performance. The one thing I do not like is MIO doesn't tell you which side of the street your destination is on. To me that could be a drawback, even the high end models appear to omit this standard feature on Garmins. Do you think MIO will address this issue?

I doubt it..

I doubt that Mio is going to add that in, they're not very responsive to customer input. Biggest reason I opened my web site for the Mio was the lack of documentation and poor technical support. We've now got a whole section dedicated to the C220, of which I'm getting mixed reviews. Drop by some time and peruse at your leisure!

Why not buy a Garmin C330?

Frys has refurbished Garmin C330 for $170 with free shpiing.

I'm just shopping to see

I'm just shopping to see what's available. The 330 is now obsolete and my i3 is already obsolete. I like the flatscreen look plus they're easier to store. Garmin makes a good product but they tend to be expensive. I also want a gps that uses the SirfIII chipset to improve reception. The 330 does not use that either. Seems to me that SirfIII should be standard on all gps's by now but it isn't.

C220 "ok"

I have seen all the comments about the screen brightness etc. but this has never been a serious problem with my C220s (I have two of them, with a 3rd on the way). The unit can always be swiveled slightly in its mount to correct for glare, so no big deal in my opinion. The unit *sometimes* takes quite awhile to get a satellite lock (I've seen this before with other devices). And the "power save" feature simply doesn't work on either of mine. It just drains the battery til it quits (so I leave it plugged in). I also get really stupid directions from time to time (don't we all?) so having a paper map nearby can help for confirmation. That said, the C220 has gotten me where I needed to go many times. I KNOW it's a "cheapo" GPS device, but it's certainly worth what it sells for.

New Mio C320

Had a C220 now have a C320. The C320 rocks. It is basically a C520 without bluetooth & TTS. I just downloaded the supporting files & updater & added TTS to the C320. I am very happy with this unit & for $150 on sale it is hard to beat!

C220 for Wife

Bought a C220 for my wife during Xmas. Since I'm a C310x owner, it has worked fine so far.

now you can run tomtom 6.10 on the mio c220

No...I am not talking about any illegal stuff, I purchased the tomtom software for 99$ and was able to run it off my sd card on a mio c220. It rocks. A friends vavigon 2100 sd card worked out of the box this is an awesome gps alike mio 310x.

Mio digiwalk c230

Hi from Puerto Rico :
A few days a new mio c230 its on the street i got one and have to many things to say, but the mayor problem its te support at mio tech. Here in the island the maps its not updated and when i write to support they only say that make some poi and thats all for now, i don't what its the last update for maps but i know that at least mio have to many erros in adrress here in the island and if we pay for a product we expect a nice service. On the other hand the equipment works goods in a fuew minutes the gps locks around two minutes, the navigation and trip mode its a good tool to make the trips works for you. And i f you like to use latitudes and longitudes the system do not fail.
Wel its all for now , excuse my bad english but i will try my best.

Welcome!

Welcome to POI Factory and your english is just fine! There is a member here named Robin who is the reigning MIO expert who has a MIO site.. If he sees your post he'll give you the address and dig around here as his site is posted here somewhere if I remember correctly..

Mio better than Nuvi?

Yes it is!! I spent 150 for each. The mio has wayyy batter maps than garmin even after garmin 2009 map update. and the Mio has text to speech added.

The only this is mio does not have it's own poi loader.
