Just bought a C330 Some advice needed!

Just picked up today. I plotted a trip from Toronto Canada to Stowe Vermont. I want to take hwy 401 east through to Quebec then cross the border from Quebec into State of vermont then South to Stowe. My unit wants me to cross border before Quebec and cross into NewYork State then to Stowe. Should I ignore the suggested route....continue into Quebec and allow unit to suggest a new route (which I am sure is the one I want) or set new route to Quebec and then set to Stowe?

Routes

You can try a couple of things -
1. Change navigation from Fastest route to shortest route to see what it gives you !
2. When you get a route - try the tools bar and hit detour and see what it gives you

3. Put a waypoint in to trip which is on the route you want to take !

Hope this helps

recalculate

Yep - It sure will - It will keep recalculating until the route you are on is now the shortest (or fastest) route - whichever you have chosen ! Turning down the volume helps - recalculating and giving you U-turns etc, etc, etc will get on your nerves !
Have fun - it is a "learning experience" - I have the C330 also !!!!
Love the unit !

From another Canuck...

Your GPS will most likely try to route you off 401 at Gananoque or Cornwall. Just ignore those and carry on with 401 east.... it will pickup your desired route when you get closer to it.
I'm leaving tomorrow for Florida and my c340 wants me to go to Cornwall to cross over. I'll cut off 401 at Gananoque and pickup I81.... which the c340 picks up as soon as I leave 401 highway. Done this trip a few times and the Garmin always gets it right after a "Recalculating" or two.

I know the Thousand islands well! I just wanted it to reroute before getting into Quebec....I get mixed up there with all the signs....not sure what the name of the border crossing there is though. If I knew I would enter it! Thanx alot Lokall

but if I ignore

Ken,

When my c340 takes a route I don't want, I set it up and go the way I want to. It will recalculate until a point I want gps to take over. Then I just follow it and it doesn't recalculate anymore.

Ignore or enter a mid point

You can either ignore the warnings, letting the unit recalculate, or enter another mid point destination that you know will bring you towards your desired route.

Adding a mid point

Adding a mid point destination is the same a plotting a new trip? In my reading I have found that I can not enter a way point on the 330. Thanx so much!!!!

Adding a Waypoint

You should be able to add a waypoint to your calculated route. I can on my c530 and I beleive your unit is very similar.

Here is how I do it on my unit.
before I calculate any route, enter the waypoint you will use to force the gps to select the route you want and save that waypoint to your favorites. Then:
1. enter a destination and calculate the route
2. press menu > where to?
3. select favorites, and from the list of favorites pick your waypoint you created above for the route you want to follow and press "go".
4. The unit should ask you "do you want to continue to your final destination by way of the waypoint?" press Yes. That should do it for you.
