My 260W battery failed after only 8 months. I contacted Garmin and was told to send my unit in for exchange. I'm now working on my second exchange/refurb unit. The refurb units have had various problems, however Garmin has been replacing them and paying for shipping back & forth. Customer service has been great, but I'm beginnning to wonder about their quality control. Perhaps I should have bought a battery and replaced it myself.
did they check your power
did they check your power supply?
Power supply
The Garmin 260W Vehicle power cable is a basic 12VDC Cigarette to mini USB device, chances are it's not bad, especially if it charges your unit then discharges quickly. You can always double check by charging the unit via computer using the double USB data cable.
If you suspect that your getting batteries that are not up to snuff with the refurbished units, be insistent that the battery be new on the next unit.

Garmin warrenty update
My third refurbished nuvi arrived in about a week, complete with map update and extended warrenty. The exchange unit looks like new and functions as designed. Throughout the whole warrenty/exchange process the Garmin customer service reps were very professional and did not give up until they got it right. Because of this experience, when the time comes... I will purchase another Garmin unit.
Garmin has very good
Garmin has very good customer service from my experience and does not give me lame answers

.
I've had two occasions to return units for repair and both times they screwed up to the point where I initiated a dialog with the VP Sales to get things resolved.
It is my experience that when you call for support, their tech people will simply make things up that 'seem right' rather than admitting that they don't know.
Caveat Emptor.
Currently have: SP3, GPSMAP 276c, Nuvi 760T, Nuvi 3790LMT, Zumo 660T
.
there the best, have had to return several units over the years , always took great care of me,
Everyday is a GREAT day :)
660
I had problems with my 660 just before warrenty was about to run out. It would not shut down when the power was cut off. I returned it to Garmin who quickly fixed and returned it.
now, I am having problems with firmware to my traffic received. The last update stopped showing up on the map. i contacted garmin, but with much less support this time. All they said was make sure software was up to date. That is what caused the problem.
just...
Just stay on it. Garmin is really good working through issues.

After Garmin sent me two batteries for my Nuvi 885, neither of which held a charge for more than a month, I finally replaced it myself, and haven't had any problem since. They kept sending me batteries with dates back in 2008. I did a google search for Garmin batteries, and paid (I believe) $25.00 delivered. Battery comes with a 1 year warranty.

Joel, does the new battery
Joel, does the new battery you paid for hold a decent charge? What's the manufacturing date of that one?

Yes, it holds a charge the way that the original was suppose to. If I go a week without using the GPS, it still has a full charge when I crank it up. No date indicated on the battery. Here is the link to where I got it:

Just type in the model # of the battery you want to replace, and it will be displayed.
