Custom Symbols

I understand how to add a custom symbol to a custom POI. However, I would like to use custom symbols for the waypoints that I create/store in MapSource.

I know how to edit those, and they look great in MapSource. The problem is that when I download those points to my Nuvi 255, the custom symbol does not go with it.

Can I download custom symbols to my Nuvi? Or is this reserved for POI's, which unfortunately do not show up on the map unless you're zoomed WAY in.

Thanks in advance!

.

You can add custom symbols to MapSource but it's a little involved.

However, they won't transfer to your nuvi.

I had same problem

I wanted to use my own icons too, but all I got was those flags, which is ok. I didnt try to get any more icons, but I will tell you this, if Motorcycle Momma said it wont copy to the Nuvi, then it most likely wont. My experience tells me that she is very reliable in what she posts on here!

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Well, bummer. Adding symbols

Well, bummer.

Adding symbols to MapSource is easy...so long as you have a photo editor. The images are in your My Garmin\Custom Waypoint Symbols folder. Just edit the PNG file and save.

Too bad they won't go down to the GPS. sad

PNG file?

You can add up to 64 custom .bmp symbols to Mapsource. For more info open Mapsource, select help, index, type in "customizing", select "Using Customized Waypoint Symbols".

To use those custom symbols in your GPS, you can copy the .bmp files into the same PC folder locations as the POI files that you load into your GPS. The .bmp file name must have the same file name as your .csv or .gpx file name, example: lowes.csv lowes.bmp
