MSN Service

Using MSN service this morning, I noticed that the traffic alert function was neglibible. Several accidents on major freeway in northern Detroit area resulted in over 1/2 hour delays - yet MSN was only showing 7 minute delay. Anyone else notice a deterioration in MSN service since the announcement that they would be discontinuing service in the future?

Never been good ( for me)

Personally, I haven't seen anytime where it has ever been accurate. Locally here in Chicago, or on the several trips I have taken with it across the country. In most cases, you would think it is just crying wolf.

I know it must be hard to keep the traffic delays accurate, so I never really avoid any of the warnings and have yet to be delayed.

MSN Service

I noticed a lack of service after the last firmware update but thought it was an MSN problem. After some troubleshooting I reinstalled the prior firmware and MSN Direct started acting normally. I'm not sure if this is the same for your unit but it's worth checking out.

MSN Traffic

I'd have to say that in "my opinion" and experience, the MSN traffic function is worthless.

I have yet to receive any real meaningful; warning when there was traffic jams... and conversely... I get alerts when the road is open and flowing freely.

The XM Traffic service was the same.... unless and until they improve these traffic services... I won't be spending any mor emoney on them.

Works OK on the Left Coast

Out here on the Left Coast, I suspect the traffic services are running from the same sources -- comparing notes after a recent trip, my son's 660 and my 680 complained about the same things at about the same times.

Of course the "value" of that is arguable, particularly when the thing tells you "now entering slow traffic" as you're moving at a brisk 15 to 20 MPH on the freeway...

For things out of the ordinary, I get better actionable information from one of my (ham radio) receivers, listening to, for example, highway patrol dispatch, or county fire.

I used MSN service last year

I used MSN service last year in Toronto area. Early last year, service was satisfactory but in last few months of 2009 it went downhill. My subscription expired in December 2009 and never bothered to renew it. Now I am using Clear channle receiver which came with my 765 unit. it is doing better job than MSN.

MSN Seattle Area was almost worthless

I let my MSN subscription expire as I found it essentially useless....almost always wrong or pointless.

TriCities TN

We do not have traffic with MS in our area but I do enjoy the gas price listing and weather radar.

MSN Service Stopped working

I updated my nuvi 255w and my MSN Service stopped working after I renewed the service. I called garmin and they want me to mail to receiver back for replacement. I have no signal on meter and this has been since 2-19-2010. Any one else have this problem?

RE; Toronto Service

I have also let my subscription lapsed as I felt that it wasn't very helpful
