Voiced Favorites while in proximity

Hello everyone it's been a while since I posted here is there any way to get your unit to voice the location of one of your favorites when your in close proximity. Ie "you are now approaching IHOP".

P.S. I have a nuvi 350

I don't believe so

If you make it part of custom POI's it can be set to come up. Whether with a custom messsage like that I'm not sure though.

TourGuide and POI Alerts

Check the FAQ section; You can use the Red Light Camera instructions to set up POI Alert with your favorite sound file for the alert sound.

Voiced Favorites

Seems like if you do this with a large number of POIs it would be very distracting in an urban area when you aren't really looking for any of these places.

Not for favorites

No you can not have a alert for a favorite. As others stated it has to be a custom poi to have the alert.

I am assuming that your use of “favorites when you are in close proximity” refers to places such as restaurants that you like versus the “Favorites” that are selected after tapping “Where to”. I am also going to assume that you are interested in knowing where these places are based on a “radius” from your current driving position versus a “distance” ahead on the particular street on which you are then driving.

First recall that, unless you are employing the technique of renaming the poi.gpi file within the X:\Garmin\POI folder (where “X” is the drive assigned to your GPS when it is connected to your PC), that the poi.gpi file is replaced in its entirety EVERY time you run POILoader. Unless you are renaming, that means you must reload all of your other POI files (like “cameras”) along with the “IHOP” file.

If the name of your “IHOP” file to which you point POILoader contains the character string “TourGuide” (note the capital “T” and capital “G” with no internal spaces) and if you use the manual mode of POILoader with an alert distance (say 5280), then you will get notification (the visual alert popup will start with “TourGuide) when you are within the radius of a mile (in this case).

You can create the “voice” alert using http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

After you download the .mp3 file, be sure to change its name to exactly the same name (the part to the left of the “period”) as your .csv or .gpx file.

Voiced favorites while in proximity
