POI Mapping Software?

Hi,

Anyone use a GIS/mapping software (preferrable free or low cost) similar to MapInfo?

I want to be able to import a POI database and view it on the computer. Thanks!

.

Microsoft Streets & Trips
MapSource
Google Earth
Google Maps

Note that you may need to convert the files in order for the software to open them. Some will import CSV but not GPX. Some will open GPX but not CSV.

POI Mapping Software

Other then the free online ones Microsoft S&T might be the cheapest way to go, especially if you can find an older version on sale. The older versions will import a .csv file and you can save it as an .est file. I think the first version that will import a .gpx file is S&T 2010. I'm not sure about that because I updated from S&T 2006 to 2010.

To Motorcycle Mama's list, I would add Delorme Street Atlas USA. The 2010 version has "POI Factory CSV" as an import file type as well as GPX on the draw layer.

Hi Jazzyone,

Streets & Trips 2010 supports several data sources that you can use for importing data. You can import addresses from any of the following sources:

* GPX format
* Microsoft Office Access (.accdb and .mdb formats)
* Microsoft Office Excel (.xls and .xlsx formats)
* Microsoft Office Outlook Contacts
* Another database, by using a Microsoft Data Link
* Plain-text files (*.txt, *.csv, *.asc, or *.tab format)

You can give S&T 2010 a try free for 60 days and see if it suits your needs. Download link available on the team blog: http://streetsandtrips.spaces.live.com

Hope that helps,
Larry

Any software that gives POI Factory a plug has to be worth a look. smile

Great suggestions..Thank You!

I looked at the Screen Shot of EPE prior to posting this thread.

It looked like it could plot a single location, but I was interested in plotting multiple locations.

Also I have to figure out how to convert CSV to GPX and import it into MapSource

Thanks!
