How do you care your Garmin!!

Hi Guys , I just wann carry out an interesting survey.. It may help others before purchasing unnecessary stuff..
We had lots talk about buying a new GPS. But I didnt notice any post regarding taking care of a device. I mean its a silly point for discussion but still your experience can save money for others before wasting money on unnecessary things.

Let me give you example. How much did you spend to buy a carry case for GPS???? My knowledge says No case comes cheaper than $15.. But I bought a case for just $3. Its not made for GPS but perfectly fits for my 255WT. even holds extra memory card. Check this out http://www.officemax.com/catalog/sku.jsp?productId=ARS30216

The same way my screen protector cost me $ 3 and works great http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/519170/Sakar-Universal...

for cleaning the screen I use a small velvety cloth came with my HP laptop.

Guys please share your experiences!

clean and care...

I use the case that came with my 680 to hold the iPod in the glove box!

I don't use screen protectors. I clean the screen (Ultra Clarity lens cleaner - great stuff) when I bring it into the house to do updates.

My case

For my 765t is a Nintendo one I fot on a clearance shelf at a WalMart for about $3. Cleaning the screen - a little LCD screen cleaner spritzed onto a microfiber cloth - works great for any size LCD screen - from GPSr to HDTV.

I just toss it in the center console storage compartment. Never cleaned the screen either. It takes the abuse pretty well.

Leather case when not in use.

Screen protector. Just because..
I also keep an ice chest in the truck to put it in at work to keep it cooler in summer, warmer in winter. If I could take it to work with me I would but it has to stay in vehicle with other toys I can't carry in to work.

Leather Case when not in use as well

I use a leather case that came with it. Haven't cleaned to screen as yet, still pretty new and not too bad. Good to see some of the suggestions that work for cleaning the screen though.

Bring it in and toss on

Bring it in and toss on coffee table.

Leather slip case

I use a leather case. Up to a few days ago I had a screen protector, but then, every time I switched the unit on, it would go into screen calibration mode, Since I removed the protective film it has reverted back to it's normal, well behaved self.

I just use bounty with tap water to clean the screen, very efficient.

Carry case

I just bought a carry case for 9.99 at Best Buy. Didn't want anything bulky, just something to keep the screen from getting scratched when I stuff it in my pocket.

Between a case that was originally that came with my power station jump starter (which held the ac and dc charging cords), leaving in it in my glove compartment to storing it inside, on the mount on the garmin bean bag... I have considered many times to get a screen protector.

My GPS unit stays in my Case Logic hardshell case when not in use. It comes in to work and home each day that I use it to keep it safe.

I'm with you on this one

I don't give it any care, just updates and wipe the screen every now and then with a laptop screen cleaner.
other than that it get's tossed into the center console, where I can hear it giving Custom POI's shout out's or traffic alerts.

Carrying Case

I have a leather Garmin case I got at BestBuy for $20. It fits snug in there and there is a slit pocket for an IPod Nano sized item. I do like the $3 one, might check it out.

I do the exact same

I also have a 680, use the case that came with it and clean it occasionally with the same cleaner by the way when I bring it into the house for updates. I have never used a screen protector and it is fine.

Care/Case

The 500 I use on the ATV I have a clear plastic to protect the display. For storage I bought an insulated lunch box, on close out for $3.00 that holds cords, brackets, and universal mounting pad.

We're using an old camcorder case.... to store the Garmin in...

Comfortably fits the Garmin, it's leather cover, mount, USB cable, Quick Menu, and a couple music cards....

No cost

It's a tool with a limited lifetime. When it gets old and worn enough, it gets replaced. Until then it stays in my car's ashtray, out of the sunlight and direct view of passersby with sticky fingers, easy for me to see but out of my normal vision so it doesn't distract but easy to hear when a turn is imminent.

i HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.
The solution is change the protector. There should be a small piece of dust beneath the protector which gives constant pressure to your screen so when you turn it on it goes to calibration mode. just clean it up!

wow

Guys thanks for sharing valuable experiences. main idea behind this post was to provide information about the best product with cheapest cost. So new device user may not have to spent a lot. please consider it too.
