Hey guys, new here!

Hey guys, like the title says, i'm new!

I just bought my first GPS yesterday. It's an off brand from what i can find on google, but it seems to work pretty well.

I'm going out of town next weekend and while i was trying to find my hotel up in columbus, it didn't come up in the POIs. So i did a little searching and found this place grin

But im not sure if this thing can even load other POIs i don't really see where i would put them. haha.

Any help guys? smile

Welcome to the site

In order to load POI's, you need to know what format it accepts i.e. GPX, CSV etc.

What does the manual say? What brand is it? Does it have software available?

Welcome to the site

Welcome to the site. It looks as if the unit has a lot of features but there is no information in the manual about adding custom POI files.

I also suggest contacting the company and seeing about updates and additional procedures.

I'm new too.

after having tried a few units loaned from friends, I bought a Garmin 350 from a friend last summer. I am just learning how to customize it.

After having loaded a couple of POI files from here onto my unit, I noticed that there are discrepancies. When there are multiple files to choose from on the same theme which one do you choose? how do you go about making changes to the submission here?

ugh..

So i emailed them and they told me to send them the missing addresses and they'd add them to the map update they're releasing in 2 months. The website mentions this update and says it'll be like $30 to do this.

I paid $42 for this thing, i really don't want to pay nearly that to just update it when there seems to be a way to update it without that nonsense.. hm.

That's how it is with these things. Some will give one free update, some won't. I bought my Sony NV-U73T as a refurb from Sony for $100. Guess what the map update cost? $100.

Welcome Natsu

Looking at your Online Manual I found that you have a CoPilot GPS from ALK Technologies, a big name in the GPS world for truckers. It is OEMed under Rightway GPS from Transparent GPS who was selling GPS prducts under EMTAC GPS. The CoPilot GPS doesn't get high reviews, it's address locations won't be the most accurate and you should check the routing before going to cities or roads you are unfamiliar with. There are many stories of people following a GPS down back roads that lead to nowhere.

All in all it looks like the Rightway version of the CoPilot has been modified for more then the marketed CoPilot for truckers and the add-ons look good. The Operating system is running under Windows CE and ALK does have software that will run on mobile phones, so maybe this software originated from there. I could not find any info about the ability to add POI's but you do have the option to use an SD card, so that is a good sign. Hopefully someone here will be able to give you more insight and answer the POI question.
