Traffic cameras not used to enforce laws.

There are traffic cameras here, used to study why some people pass others on no passing zones. Should these be included in the database? They aren't used to send out tickets, but I assume they could be used to determine the people at fault if someone passed in no passing zone and caused an accident.

Where's Here?

Where are these cameras? Adding might be a good idea since the time it takes to go from a study to an enforcement tool can sometimes be measured with an egg timer.

Do they look any different

than regular speed or redlight cameras?

not sure

They are in Christiansburg, Virginia. I took a class recently to get a speeding ticket dropped, and the instructor told us about these cameras. I know basically where one is, but she mentioned there were others. Sometime when I am bored I may drive to the area where the one I know of is suppose to be. I'm not sure if they look any different from the regular red light cameras or speed cameras.

Vote= Yes

I am conservative and like to know where monitoring devices are posted. Although it does not fit the definition of "red light" camera, my vote is yes. Just one man's opinion...

Please Add

I believe it's helpful to know where those traffic cams are since they might turn into real ticket issuing cams in the future.

I guess I'm on the fence

I think I'm undecided, leaning toward yes. I personally wouldn't want the same alert (I don't think) as active ticket cams, although I could change it in my local file if they were somehow obvious.

How about a new "Orwell's America" POI file with all of these surveillance type cams? razz Might be creepier than we expect.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

No.

Leave them out unless they actually start using them for enforcement (issuing tickets). False alarms are not helpful.

more info

Here is a link describing the cameras in more detail. http://www.vtnews.vt.edu/story.php?relyear=2003&itemno=398 It states it does collect information about speed of vehicles, although I am not sure if it has the ability to record license plates of the offenders.
