Boycott Starbucks!!! J/K

I just got off the phone with starbucks and asked for a complete listings of their stores, "Sorry we don't have one"

I wonder why they don't. Perhaps I could hack into their database and query it out...lol.

No need to boycott. With the price of drinks at Starbucks I don't even waste the time stepping inside one. I just don't understand why people pay $5 for a whipped up coffee. Plus places like Panera and Atlanta Bread Co. offer FREE WiFi

Lets hold off on contacting

Lets hold off on contacting large companies until we have a plan formed.
We want to approach them carefully and professionally. I think we need to use the form letter that has been made and I will be taking care of getting in touch with them myself.
I don't want to get into a situation where there are 5 people contacting each chain and the chain gets frustrated and decides not to work with us.

Miss Poi

I prefer locals

When I can find them. They often have free WiFi. I don't actively boycott Starbucks, but they are putting in "coffee bars" in every grocery store in town and opening shops right across the street from the locals who have served our community so well, so long. So at least locally I will go to our locals any day over Starbucks.

Alright, sorry about that.

Alright, sorry about that. I see your point though.

I don't believe that I did much damage, I simply asked for a complete listing of their store locations and they said that they didn't have one. That was pretty much the end of our conversation. I didn't mention the purpose of the listing.

Hopefully you will have better luck!

I will have to agree.. have one person do the deal is the best way to go.

Think of you answeriing a phone to ask you where your house is and everyone here calls you.. wouldnt you rather have 1 person call, get the info, then have it posted in a general area..

When you get this going, could you keep a running list of the companies contacted and the results. That way we could suggest adding others to the list and avoid contacting ones you already have?

store listing

If you go to their website you can see all 9547 stores in the US broken down by state (plus store not open yet). Just leave all the search items blank except the country (or can put the state in as well) can anyone say carpel tunnel?
Should be a good one for the open projects section.

I'm not sure - producing poi files & keeping them up to date is a fair amount of work, and a company isn't likely to want to bother if there isn't much demand. I would think that more people asking (politely, of course) would be more likely to get a response. But it can't hurt to try your letter first!

I Beg To Differ

These companies maintain the databases of their locations as a function of their doing business...once the database is made, it is a very simple matter to export to a CSV file that can be quickly, and easily geocoded.

I could see a letter from Miss Poi to a business entity that says "on behalf of the 11,000+ active users of our web site, we'd like you to share your database of locations with us so we can make it compatible for use in GPS/Personal Travel Assistants..." Let's let Miss Poi come up with a plan, and then we can kick in and help as she needs.

Boycott Starbucks!!! J/K

A letter would work indeed. I would think that their website would have the locations as well. But nowadays, there's a Starbucks on practically every corner! Finding one shouldn't be too hard. Updating a POI file for Starbucks could be quite the task due to the amount that are consistently popping up. But if you got the time, go for it.

Letters vs websites

I've learned from making the Wawa POI that corporate websites might not always have the most accurate, or the most up to date info available. smile

The problem with some of the websites is that they have you search based on zip codes and that is just not a project that most of us have the time or energy to take on. So you know all the zip codes of the united states and canada?

Miss Poi

When I called the Atlanta Bread Company corp. office, I started out stating that I wanted to do a custom POI, and why, and that I would share it with many GPS users around the US, and then I asked it it would be possible to get a complete list. A very nice lady sent me an Excel file with all of their locations, some not on their Website yet. Stressing the fact that it will make it easier for folks to find and patronize their establishments will go a long way towards getting a positive result.

I wish it was more then 1 zip code at a time

Yeah I hate that! I was going to do an enterprise rental car one, but since I am impatient, I gave up for the time being.

Here ya go, a "most popular" location listing by city

But, I think it'll do just fine!

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the tip! However, I was after a national list, or at least "east of the MS River". Most of the time, I rent a car here and then return it here, but there have been times that I needed a car somewhere else. I do wish that they had the street address and phonenumber on the same page.

as long as i get another badge lol razz

starbucks listing

no offense but they're are way!!!!! too many for me to do

sorry i take that back

stubsfeld, what are you

stubsfeld, what are you talking about?

hehehehee

I think that studsfeld figured out how long it would take to try to make a poi file with all the starbucks locations:) It should be easy in some spots Studfeld, all you have to do is put a mark on ever corner;)

Miss Poi

busting a gut here Stubsfeld...

Ok, so I open the content folder to see what is in the moderation hopper and there I find the file that you have so kindly made for all of us to enjoy;) What a great sense of humor you have.

Not only did you find a place with coffee but also a place with donuts!!! Yahhhooo for stubsfeld.

It is a good thing I was not drinking something, I was laughing until tears were rolling down my face.

Miss POI

do you know how many ppl

do you know how many ppl call SBUX in a day and ask for address list etc

most likely they have a policy against giving out that list. think of how many sales organizations would like that list to solicit

Elephant joke

How do you eat an elephant? One bit at a time. I'm not a big fan of Starbucks but, I would be willing to contribute to the creation of this list. I think if everyone signs up for a city or 2 it might not take that long to compile a complete list. I'll take Lake Forest and Irvine CA. Yea, I know NY and Seattle are going to be a big pain!

Panera

does anyone have a complete file for all the Panera locations? There are some scattered State files posted, but I haven't seen a complete listing with all 900+ locations.

Gym Too

24hr Fitness would not give me a masterlist of all their locations either. The "Member Services" told me to go to the website b/c they had no list????? I pointed out that "If you have a store locator on your website then somewhere there has to be a Database it is accessing so the list must exist". They were willing to have me cancel my membership rather than simply print out a list and snail mail it or just create a .txt or a .doc document and e-mail it

I'm Lurking

djs wrote:

Hopefully someone in the know will have an answer.

Frankly, one of the main reasons I got my Nuvi was to be able to locate Panera's when I'm on the road. Of course since then there are many reasons. The two Panera's near me are still not on the updated maps, so thats why I'm getting into custom POI's.

Sounds like a great project for someone to gather the existing scattered Panera's and make one file with the latest stores included.

Maintaining Panera file

I wonder if the author would allow it to be posted here if someone else were to assume the responsibility of updating it??
