Dutch government wants to track all motorists with GPS.

I wonder how long until this happens in the U.S. ?

The Dutch government said Friday it wants to introduce a "green" road tax by the kilometre from 2012 aimed at cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 10 percent and halving congestion.

"Each vehicle will be equipped with a GPS device that tracks how many kilometres are driven and when and where. This data will be then be sent to a collection agency that will send out the bill," the transport ministry said in a statement.

Tax tax tax

All governments cannot learn to "live within their means".

We will all be taxed until we revolt and say ENOUGH.

Stop spending my great grand children's money NOW!!!
STOP THE SPENDING.

Oops sorry - I stepped down off my soapbox.
I hate when that happens!!!

It's possible we may know as soon as December when President Obama goes to Denmark for the Copenhagen talks on climate change (aka global warming), that is, if the Obama administration makes any pledges to the international community. Of course, the Senate would have to ratify any binding international treaty which might affect US sovereignty.

Well...

I believe Oregon wanted to do this as well fairly recently, and before the Dutch. The Japenese do record yearly mileage, although not via a GPS (yet). They pay big bucks if they're over the limit.

Still a bad idea.

Globull warming is a HOAX.

Globull warming is a HOAX. PERIOD.

Until some greenweenie hippy type can show my one of their 'peer reviewed' papers('peer reviewed'..the matra of greenweenie lemmings), that INCLUDE THE SUN, then they will never carry any weight.

Its funny how they can't explain the past 10 year decline in temp.
But OH! They have 'struggled' to push forth that the cooling is PROOF of globull warming.
Just hit yourself in head with a hammer 18 times, reduce your IQ to 12, and MAYBE you could believe it.

Here is a lil exercise for ya..and something you can use against the globull warming crowd.

Of all your models that you 'claim' predect GW..
Show me one where you plug in known numbers to predict any other point in time.
IE plug in known numbers from the past to predict what actually happened in say..1990.
Guess what..they can't..never been done.
Seems like an OBVIOUS test right? Of course..but they can't do it. Only a moron would accept such garbage at face value without even a SIMPLE verification.

Globull warming is nothing more than an attempt to regulate EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE.

Dang... my soapbox just got a few shoe scuffs in it too..
grin

Tax Tax Tax

It is in the nature of governments to spend beyond their means in trying to satisfy citizens who want something for nothing. The trade is it keeps the politicians in office.

At best - slimy.

At worst - stupid, long run since the people who really earn it won't want to pay.

Roadtax

Let's go back to the subject: POI's.

Wouldn't Worry About It

It won't happen here in the US. It would take too long and cost too much. There are just way too many cars. I'd worry more about toll roads and bridges popping up. It's cheaper to start and the inflow of money is immediate.
