You are correct AT&T is offering the phone for $299.99 or for $199.99 as an upgrade if your eligible. It would also require a 2 year contract. The web address is:

Anyone know what's happen after 2 years contract...

can you still use the navigation without phone service?

Im sure you can, anything is

possible... but why get the PHONE to use it for navigation only... thats why theres GPS

ATT 'extras'

Before purchasing, inquire if there's an additional charge for using the GPS feature.

Before purchasing my Nuvi 265wt, I priced AT&T's Navigator phones and found I would have to pay approx $20 a month extra for the GPS feature. Don't know if this is still the case.

Let us know what you find out,

In doing some research the phone is a full GPS which operates like a Nuvi. No cell towers are needed.

Nuvifone

The Garmin Nuvifone G60 must have a SIM card installed for it to work as a GPS, according to what I have read. The SIM card need not be subscribed, but it must be installed. There is no additional fee to use the GPS. It works completely independent of the cellular service, other than the fact that a SIM must be installed.

Howard Forums has some discussion of the Nuvifone

Not Dead

At&t ran a commercial just last weekend with the Nuvi phone..it makes no sense to me they have the Iphone so anyone that would put up with At&ts crappy service is only there to get the iphone.

Size matters to me

The small size of a phone, that is.

I never could stand the thought of having something the size of a PDA stuck to my ear to make a phone call, so I didn't switch to a smart phone until BlackBerry came up with something small enough. Now they have a clamshell style that I like. grin

Despite the Verizon guys trying to push their VZ Navigator on me, I can't imagine following the direction on its small screen. rolleyes I like the screen size of my 7x0 for driving, but I don't want to use a phone the size of my nuvi, either.

As Scotty said, "How many times do I have to tell you? The right tool for the right job!" wink

As of today, Amazon.com has the Nuviphone

for $99.99 (with new 2 yr service plan)with AT&T.

It's obvious sales are dismal.

Started at $499.99...Now $99.00 Someone at Garmin is thinking, "Wow, we sure took too much time to get this thing out the door, almost like Airbus A380 or the Boeing 787 Dreamliner."

Too bad it's AT&T

Wow. It's too bad it's only with AT&T. One big reason I don't have an iPhone is because it's only available through AT&T and their network is worthless. If they'd open it up to Verizon I would guess there would suddenly be several million more iPhones out there. Same thing with the nüviPhone. By tying it to the rotten AT&T service I think that Garmin has totally shot themselves in the foot.

I know a number of folks who geocache with their iPhones and BlackBerry devices and they are "mostly" satisfied. However, the folks who have a BlackBerry seem like they'd be happy to switch to the iPhone if they could just keep the reliability of the Verizon network. You can be they won't be dumping their BlackBerry for the nüviPhone since it would mean switching to AT&T.

"Too bad it's AT&T"

I'm in total agreement with that. The coverage on the Verizon network is so much better I wouldn't even consider the phone because of the carrier they picked.

It's to bad that they were not able to work out a deal with Verizon because the phone has a lot of nice features.

Apple's exculsive deal with AT&T for the iPhone expires in 2010.

And I too would probably have an iPhone if it were not a GSM only device.

Wonder if somebody will find

Wonder if somebody will find a way to unlock the phone - so that it can be used with any sim card.

Unlocked Nuvifone

There was an unlocked Garmin Nuvifone on Ebay that ended earlier this afternoon. I think any phone that is subsidy locked can be unlocked with the correct code. I bought a used Motorola Tundra and did the subsidy unlock several months ago. It works great on T-Mobile. I Am sure that the Nuvifone would work great on T-Mobile as well. I am actually hoping that Google Local Search could be added back in, but we will have to wait and see on that.

Actually, this one on Ebay also comes unlocked, but I don't see that it has Google Local Search.

I'm not sure about that. You would be better off with a full size GPS. There much easyer to see.
