Last Minute Turn Notifications, abd other stuff

I've wondered inf anyone else has noticed these things

1. Last Minute turn instructions - If i didnt know thios particular area id have a problem. In orange County, California, going North on the 55 freeway, when my route takes me on to I5, my garmin nuvi doesnt tell me to turn till I;m almost past the exit, well knowing the area, I'm actually ON the exit by the time it tells me to take the exit.

In this same area, it tells me to stay right on CA 55, which is fine, except it never tells me to get over one lane, cause the far right late turns into an exit.

I dont know if i should complain to the city/state about this, but what is marked as an onramp to the i405 near the Westminster Mall here, is actually a street called WestMinster Mall Road, which is what my nuvi tells me to turn on. It not being marked as such with road signs, it almost confused me last weekend.

Has this kind of thing been updated in any of the firmware? is there another solution?

I have had that problem

I have had this problem with last minute turns also. I would love to know why it does this and if it can be fixed. I have missed many an exit b/c of the problem.

blah

It actually seems the update to 4.8 firmware helps this some. i was at 2.9 for a long time...just been too lazy to upgrade till recently...

Only ONE notification ???

Do I understand this correctly that you are getting only ONE notification for the turn......when you are right ON it ??

My Magellan starts 2 miles away and by the time I actually get the last alarm to turn, I've heard it at least 3 times. That final notification is sometimes a little "late" but if you are paying attention, I don't see how that is a significant problem. It helps, of course, to have the street/exit name spoken out too.

Keep current

I think that for the most part keeping your Nuvi updated will solve this problem. On all three of my Nuvi's I get directions well before a turn is required. This has improved over numerous firmware updates.

Yes, in one specific place at least. Not always, Ive only noticed it on one specific ramp from one freeway to another here in Orange County, CA.
However, upgrading firmware on my nuvi 760 seems to have helped quite a bit, as has turning down the radio so I can hear the voice smile

early maybe

Funny, I have sortof always thought that, if anything, my GPS sortof alerted me a lil too early for turns. I hav ea 765t.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Red Light Cameras

I also had problems recently with the Red Light Camera notifications. It has alerted me to this camera before so I knew it was there, but recently I drove up to it, made the turn at the intersection and then it alerted me that there was camera there after I passed it. It happens once in awhile but not all the time.

me too

I've had issues with this as well - and it always happens at a place I am unfamiliar with. When I know where I am at, it doesn't do it razz

It's caused me a few problems before

I've been fortunate, that the one place it happens regularly is an area i'm familiar with. I';m glad i'm not you razz

Map errors??

On a recent trip of six thousands this happened twice for me. Both occurrences were in Houston. One eastbound and one west bound. Different drivers. I also took note that someone posted on the forums that the summer/fall release of Garmin maps included significant updates for that exact area in Houston. A slight coordinate error in the maps could cause the turn notification to be late for for that matter too soon.

If it were a firmware issue the errors might be predictable but would certainly not be limited to such few patterns as I have seen on my unit. (765T)

Well, I must admit, I did just update my maps not that long ago....so..perhaps it was the map update, not the firmware update

One can only updates help

One can only hope updates help. I was traveling in South Florida over the past weekend and had a few of the same problems. One time the 765T said to go East even though the written instructions showed West. Another time it said "on left" when the place was actually on the right. Hum ...
Good thing I had someone with me that was familiar with the area.
(I also experienced the short notice before turns and off ramps.)
