Garmin 765t freezing

I have a Nuvi 765t. We used it on a 1200 mile trip from NC to MN and back recently. During the trip up and back, it locked up 4 times. As in, the screen froze. No reaction to screen touch inputs or anything. Turning the gps on and off got it working again. Anyone else experiencing this with this unit, or similar units by Garmin? Everything else works ok. While this isnt desirable, it seems to fall into the grey area of what is defective or not. I did notice it gets rather warm on the dash, but we only had it there while traveling. BTW, it has all the latest firmware and map updates. Whatcha think, should I sorta consider this normal behaviour, given some quirks with this model? I can put up with a occasional lockup, if it doesnt get worse, or could it be signaling impending doom for the unit? I like the unit otherwise, because I can create POIs, alerts, and create routes in Mapsource, and have it take me "MY Way". Any opinions, experiences, would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Hard Reset

Lock-up's are certainly not normal behavior. If you haven't done so already, try a hard reset. DorkusNimrod explains the procedure in this post: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25426.

Mine too

Mine has done the same thing. Garmin support said to do a Hard Reset too. I have done it but have not used it enough to see if it makes a difference.

Me, Too

My 765T has experienced the same behavior on two separate occasions. Both times, turning it off and on cured the problem, Like yours, mine too, seems quite warm to the touch when mounted on the windshield and plugged in. When running off the battery, it does not seem so warm. I will try the hard reset. Otherwise, I love the Nuvi.

nuvi 765

Mine is still well behaved but I'll keep an eye out for this problem

265WT Unresponsive to The Tourch

My 265WT did the same thing locking up when it got too warm to the touch on the unit. I turned the unit off and back on and it was okay. I did not try a hard reset since the problem hasn't recurred in cooler days. I do think it has alot to do with the hot temperature in the summer.

Did you leave it in the car with a hot day?..It will lock up

when the unit temperature is high enough.

Mine Runs Hot

Haven't had a lock-up yet, but did have the sound quit once and had to do a hard boot to get it back. Mine does appear warmer than my old 350 did, all the time, when it's on. It doesn't seem to harm it though.

haven't experienced any

haven't experienced any lock-up issues with my 765t, but I will keep this in the back of my mind.

My 765T froze the other day.

Screen was locked completely. Slided the power button to the left and held it for 4-5 seconds and it rebooted. Its now working fine.

I have mine freez up several

I have mine freeze up several times now. Twice on the last trip of 700 miles. Temperatures were cool, certainly not hot.

I had some lockups on my 760

I had some lockups on my 760 until I updated the software to the most recent version. I would think if that or a hard reset didn't work then there is a hardware problem because that is definitely not normal behavior. Good luck...

Hard reset

Since I did the hard reset I have not had the unit hangup. I don't think mine is heat related as it has hung at night too.

No Lockups

Just got back from Hawaii and had my 750 on the dash the whole time and it worked flawlessly. I am sure it got hot as it was in the sun much of the time but did not experience any problems.

Bobby....Garmin 2450LM

locks up around 4pm

My Garmin also locks up too. I use mine particularly for work and at the end of my shift it locks up around 4:00PM. I take pictures of each time just to show Best Buy since I still have a warranty with them. So far out of the 5 days I recorded times of 4:20, 3:33, 5:40, 4:11 & 3:50. I hope at some time soon a new firmware will fix the issue.......Probably not though.

Web Updater

Have to try to run it yet to get the latest firmware? If YES, try to restore original map it comes with if it's possible.

Good Luck.

Which Fix worked?

"Walk this way" which fix worked...the reset or update?

My 765T has only done this once to me so far. It wasn't a hot day, the unit didn't feel hot either.

The visual map froze but the verbal directions kept on going.
