How should I break up a POI for other users?

Someone made a suggestion about 3 weeks ago for a good POI. I am currently creating a "Offbeat Tourist Attractions" POI.

Since this is my 1st attemt in creating one, I would like some feed back from othere users here for the following:

1) Should I create 1 big POI file, Or should i breat it down by states?

2) Would you even be intrested in a POI like this?

3) If you are, which states should I work on next?

I am getting the source from many sites and frinds, I will only be putting in addreeses , (no about, or cross streets)

Last, If anyone has any fun, or offbeat areas that you know of, Please send it it me so I can add it.. This is going to be a fun one..

Thanks for all of your help!

I would like to see it broken down by state since many folks have that 2MB limitation on their StreetPilots. It would also be easier to edit and add to.
IMHO. Thanks in advance. It's a great idea.

how many locations

Another factor to consider is how many locations you expect it will have.

Last year, Wamico posted that he was able to load about 41,000 POIs into the 2MB available on his c340, and his results seem to be fairly typical.

A file with a couple hundred POIs doesn't take a lot of space, but files with thousands of POIs can be a problem for units with less memory.

Very Cool Idea

I'm not really sure this is what your talking about, but, have you seen the Weird U.S. collection?

When I get some time:) I'm going to start on the PA area.

These are poi's you can have some fun with.

Thanks for sharing your idea.

I think this would be an interesting collection. Depending upon the size and number of states, I would be interested in a single file.
If you are starting with only a few states, then you should post them by states. When completed or near completion, it would be useful to combine them into a single offering (depending upon size).

It is easier, as a user, to cut down a larger file by opening in excel, sorting by state, and eliminating the ones I'm not interested in, than to download and then load or combine 50 states together.

Another thought - if you

Another thought - if you save it as a CSV and include the state in the comment section, then a person can always sort out what they want and save it as a new POI file. Lots of potentials with what you are suggesting - sounds like fun.

Update!!

Ok, To keep everyone happy, I will be creating a file for each State, as well a 1 big file.. all for your choice.

I want this to be fun for others to have and use.

This project that I took on is starting to grow more and more, its begining to have a life of its own. I sure hope people will find it useful and fun to have and use.

I will be uploading a few states later today or next.

I sure hope to get feed back for all so that I can make it even better.

Since POIs don't take a lot

Since POIs don't take a lot of space, I would vote for a single file. That way, I wouldn't have to change it out depending where I was going to go. Of course, you do run into a space limitation on the c3xx, since you can't store POIs on the SD card.

Going to wait until new server is up..

Since we are waiting on a new server, I will continue to work on my POI files and will start uploading them after the new server comes on line.. I dont need to give the admins here more work than they have now..

I will like to start a new tread for the new POI files that I am creating and sow a sample of what will be in the files, then ask for others to help.. How would one go about doing that?

This is going to keep growing and I would like to keep on top of it as best as I can..

You might want to check with Miss POI. They had set up a section with New Projects where groups get together to work on a POI. You will see it under the Discussion Tab.

I think that as we get

I think that as we get bigger and we have more people working on things at the same time it becomes even more important to notify the community of what projects you have in the works. That way we don't have 3 people working on the same thing.

Miss Poi

Thanks, THat is why I put the message out, To let people know I am working on this, And to see if there is anyone that would be intrested in this.

Soon, after I start releaseing the states, I am hoping to get others to help out so I can keep adding or fixing the ones that I messed up on or is no longer there.

I am sure others will like to hep by giving me addresses (and Lat,Lon if poss) and what the site is. This way we can keep it growing and to keep it fresh..

I guess sort of like you are doing miss poi with your red lights camera..

Your thoughts?

BTW below is a sample what you will find in the poi files:

From AZ
==============================

Thanks

That was one of the sites that I got some info from..

This type of POI will never be done..

A few of the thingts that I required for the address to go in was that I needed the full address, not a about area. Also It had to be really fun place and that one would not really think of visting unles you were told or just saw it.

I will be uploading all the states that I have, and will keep updating as I get other to give me more places. I currently have over 1900 places for all the states. Its a good start I hope..

I will create a new Post to start talking about this project.. Hope to see you there!
