Garmin GPS tracking software/website

This really isn't for Garmin devices only but that is the one I have.

Does anyone know if there is software available/website to use to track where my GPS is? Let's say my device gets stolen. The person that took it is currently using it. I am looking for software or a website that I can use to find where the device currently is.

The GPS is a receiver only and does not send information out

The GPS is a receiver only and does not send information out so would not be able to do what you are asking.

Of course this will only work when the nuvi has been plugged into an internet connected computer, but its still something.

GadgetTrak USB must be installed on a portable media device before it is stolen. We cannot track devices that have already been stolen without our software installed.

There might be a good idea in this product, but because it requires a software to be installed on the USB device, it can also be removed.

Also, the software on the USB as to be launched and allowed to connect to the web. The FAQ on the site says it won't be blocked by firewalls, but I'd really like to see that...

Correct, but.....

I think this relies on the fact that most petty theft criminals are, shall we say, a little dim. The idea is that the criminal will try to sanitize the device so that there is not trace of the former owner. The tracking software is name "passwords.exe", using the notepad icon for a ".txt" file. Upon seeing this the criminal thinks he's hit the jackpot and unwittingly starts the program thinking its a list of passwords.

When you connect your device

When you connect your device to your computer and connect to Garmin's Communicator Plug-In, Garmin can retrieve data from your unit.

OK.....so where the heck am I?

Working like a cell phone

Bummer. I was thinking the GPS device would act like cell phone gps does, either that or I am watching too many tv shows where they track the person using their cell phone gps. Granted tracking a cell phone could probably be done using the cell phone towers without the need for the phone to have gps.

Too much TV
