Incorrect POI Name (not custom POI)

I'm having difficulty finding where to log a POI error (not a custom POI but the ones native on the Garmin). I have found a place on Garmin's site about logging map errors but that seems to be a list that's forwarded to Navteq. I'm not certain that Navteq is in charge of the POI's loaded on Garmins so I'm not convinced posting it there will do any good. The POI in question is a school that changed its name about 10 years ago but I do know of others, such as restaurants that have either moved or closed. If anyone has successfully forwarded an error like this to Garmin please let me know the best way to proceed.

BTW, I have emailed support (I’ll be surprised if they get back to me sooner than two days from now) after I gave up calling when I found out it would be a 30 minute wait. I guess I’m looking for either a web link specifically for this purpose or confirmation that reporting a map error is the way to go.

You've done about all you

You've done about all you can by emailing Garmin. It's rumored they buy the POI data from Navteq but it would be pretty common for them to "massage" the data before putting it into their units. In any event, they would have the quick fix, while the permanent fix would be with the data source. Don't expect any fixes until new map data is released. It may be too late for this next round the 2010.2 release.

Thank you both for your comments.

I logged the change with Navteq. If I have any success I'll be sure to update.

Happy Dance - Thanks for the link! It's going into my Favorites list under Garmin. There’s been a new shopping Plaza/Mall and roads built near me and I’ve not seen them added or updated on the map. I’ll be recording the Lat,Long’s to the New Starbucks, Canadian Tire, No Frills, Outlet Stores etc. and pass them on to the site.
Thanks Again

Patience

Once you report updates or errors, it can take one or two years to see the changes. If Navteq already has the info, they'll let you know via email, assuming you registered.

So be patient!

Garmin's official response is just as jkaplan said:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

You can report these directly to the source through Navteq (the company from whom we license our mapping). You can find their MapReporter at the following link: http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/submi...
