Organizing custom POI's

Is it possible to save custom POI's in sub-categories already established? I want my Cracker Barrel listings so they show up as a food destination along with other food . Can I create a new sub-category like 'camping' that will show with food, lodging, shopping, etc on the list of sub-categories? I have a nuvi 750

Yes

You may have one layer of sub-folders within the folder where you put all of your POI files.

Something like this:

Camping
Fuel
Restaurants
Shopping
etc

If you put all of your campground files within Camping, Fuel files such as Loves, Pilot, etc. into Fuel, Cracker Barrel, Sonic, Olive Garden, etc. into Restaurants, then run POI Loader, all of the camping files will be inside of camping and so on. One advantage to this is that each sub-folder has an All Categories list in addition to each file. This means you can selectively list only the closest Loves fuel stops or, you can collectively list all of the closest Loves, Pilot, TA, Walmart fuel stops by selecting that group.

I have found what you were asking to do very useful. The important thing to remember is that there can be only one layer of these subfolders.

what about current files

Is there any way to put the new POI's in the current food, fuel etc folders that have been preloaded? It sounds like that if I set up a layer inside the custom POI folder, then I would have to do a search with the preloaded destinations and then search again with my downloaded POI's.

No

There is no way to combine custom pois with the built-in pois. The files are totally separate and must be searched separately.

I didn't catch exactly what you were asking the 1st time. The preloaded POI are neither editable nor is how they are structured. The option is to use the Custom POI separate from the preloaded.

From personal experience, I have found the Custom POI, particularly those that I've found here at the POI-Factory are more complete and accurate than those that came preloaded on my 750. I've found nearly all the POI I'm interested in right here and rarely use the preloaded POI.

Yes, this does seem to duplicate a lot of POI that are already in the 750, but I have greater confidence in the Custom POI.

If I remember correctly, you

If I remember correctly, you are limited to 32 files per subcategory.
