Nuvi 1300 Loses Favorites

I just purchased a Nuvi 1300 to replace my C340. I used Easy GPS to save my favorites/POIs/waypoints/etc. I used Easy GPS to transfer my gpx file to the Nuvi 1300 just like I used to do with my C340. I even copy & pasted into Garmin's GPX folder. In the past I had transfered files to the C340 after updating several times with Easy GPS with no problems. When I transfered to the Nuvi 1300 the favorites showed up but didn't have addresses. When I restarted the unit they were gone. If I searched some of them were able to be found but not all of them. Is this common? They stay visible until I turn the unit off. The Nuvi 1300 doesn't seem to be reading my gpx file correctly. Any suggetions?

What was the filename?

If you used the filename of Current.gpx when you saved your Favorites and then transferred that file to your new GPS, that was the problem. You need to repeat the process but this time use a different filename. The file Current.gpx is an OUTPUT file that is created every time your Nuvi boots up. Any other filename will be seen as an IMPORT file and will be loaded when your GPS boots up.

So if you used the name Current.gpx, when your new Nuvi booted up, it overwrote the file with the current contents of it's favorites instead of adding that file to the existing Favorites. Just repeat the process using a different filename and you should be fine.

I think on some units, you

I think on some units, you need to name it temp.gpx. It should read it into memory, copy into current.gpx and delete temp.gpx when Nuvi is turned off and back on.

anything BUT current.gpx

As johnc mentioned, the file can be named anything BUT current.gpx. The name temp.gpx is just the name that is most commonly used for the import file because when favorites/routes etc are transferred to the nuvi using MapSource, this is the filename that is used.

lost favs

This worked great. I had a similar issue with the "current.gpx" file...renamed it temp.gpx and it loaded fine.
Thanks!

custom categories

Nuvi 1300: How can I edit the name of a custom category?
Had a typo and want to fix it. OR how can I delete the category and setup a new one?

.

charlesd45's suggestion won't work as you cannot rename a category on the nuvi, only the favorite(s) within that category. To rename a category requires the category to be removed/deleted, then a new category with the correct spelling can be created.

Categories are removed from the unit when there are no favorites associated with it.

Example: you have a category on the unit named "category 1" which has favorites in it named "House" and "Yard". To remove category1, do the following:

1. Where To?>Favorites>category 1
2. Tap on the favorite "House", then tap Edit>Arrow down>Change Categories and deselect category1. Now press the Back button three times to go back to the list of favorites associated with the category1 folder.
3. Repeat the process for the next favorite contained in category1

When the category is deselected for all favorites within that category, it will automatically be deleted.

Now you can create a new category with the correct name.
