POI Alerts

I have a POI file that I have loaded that covers Ohio Wineries.

I have a NUVI 750.Yesterday I set the Garmin to take

me to a favorite winery. This was the first test of

the file. The alert went off, as expected as we

approached the winery. We passed several wineries on

the way that are in the file.......but no alarm sounded.

I thought that as long as the GPS was on, it would

sound as we approached any winery in the file.

My main reason for loading this file was to alert me

of unknown wineries.

It's not much use if it only sounds when you designate

a winery in "GO".

Alerts work when the trigger point is within about 50 feet of the road you are on. Use a program like Extra_POI_Editor to examine the file and see where each winery is marked. Move the geo point to near the main road and you are good to go.

You also try adding

You also can try adding TourGuide to the file name. This will give you a radius alert.

hi

I loaded the poi file so that I would be notified of

any wineries, where ever I may go. It wouldn't be

worth it to do it to everyone in the file.

If I'm interested in a particular one......I just

set the gps for it.

Thanks for you reply

Need an Example

I'm not sure how to do this.

As it stands I renamed the file WINE.gpi in the Nuvi.

Do I need a tourguide program?

Give me an example of what you mean.

Thanks for replying.

Add TourGuide to the file name

You probably started with WINE.csv, rename it to WINE TourGuide.csv. Note that the TourGuide is one word with the T and G capitalized. Run POI Loader and now the alerts will occur when you enter a circle defined by the radius you set when you manually load that file. This responds differently as the standard alert requires that the point be within about 50' of the roadway for the alert to function.

It sounds like you may have done a single file load and then renamed the resulting poi.gpi to WINE.gpi. I think this will still work, just start with TourGuide in the original file name.

You can verify this works by going into simulation mode, set your location to a couple of miles or so away from the point in question and then set a destination that will take you past that point then sit back and watch it run and see what happens.
