We are looking for navigable maps of Cyprus for my Garmin nuvi 760.

Thanks

WorldMap

From the Garmin site I can only find Cyprus on the World Map. Try this link http://tinyurl.com/mc4zcm and then click on “click to view a detailed, interactive map”. Hope this helps.

Cyprus detail maps

Thank you bandaid but unfortunately there are no detailed maps shown there.

Even for Greece, the Garmin maps only cover the metropolitan area according to their website, which means you will be stuck in Athens, lol.

Maybe this will help http://www.cymps.com/

.

Perfect

Thank you Gadgetguy,

looks like this is the one. Some minor difficulties with Mapsource, but I am sure they'll be helping out.

Thank you

Thanks Motorcycle Mama,

between you and Gadgetguy, I should be all set. Hopefully one of this two will do the trick.

Does anyone have a tutorial on how to upload the maps from the website you sent me?

THanks

Hi, I dl the v8 of the

Hi, I dl the v8 of the cypress map but encountered an error that I encountered once before, I think last year. I could not open Mapsource. Apparently there is a conflict with that file and mapsouce but I don't recall the conflict file that occured before. I just restored my computer to the previous day and it corrected the problem of not opening Mapsourse. The Cypress map is still not installed in Mapsourse.

Same problem

Hi gerrydrake,

did you use the default directory? C:\mymamps that it said in the directions? I didn't at the beginning and I kept getting an error message as well.

I moved the maps to the deafult directory, re-run the registry, and pronto, evetything worked fine.

Except, how do I load the maps from Mapsource to my GPS now?

Thanks

Hi, I didn't have a "mymaps"

Hi, I didn't have a "mymaps" folder in the C drive, so I created one and then dl to it, but still got error message. I do have a "MAPS" folder. Maybe I should try again and download the file to the "MAP" folder, that already exists. As far as how to getting the map to your gps, just open mapsource and click the send/receive tab, to your gps that is plugged into your computer via the usb cable. It should send the map to your unit. If you check your MAP info in your gps, it should be there.

Well, I downloaded the v7

Well, I downloaded the v7 file to my "MAPS" folder in "C" drive. Got the same result...Mapsource, will not open. NOw I will have to "restore" my computer again. I think I will need srep by step instructions vefore I try this again. I keep getting the same message that there is a problem with the installation and to try reinstalling it again...I don't think so......lol.

This is what worked for me

Hi gerrydrake,

these are the installation notes (followed faithfully the third time around and worked, the first couple of times I was using my own directories).

Installation Notes:

1. Make a folder “C:\mymaps\”
2. Extract and copy all files in folder.
3. Double click “cymps_v8_32bit.reg” and accept for 32bit windows or “cymps_v8_64bit.reg” and accept for 64bit windows
4. Upload map to your device using Mapsource (use latest version)

I used v8 because I have a nuvi 760 and the 32bit.reg as I am running Windows XP Media.

Hope it works for you as well.

Thanks for the steps but I

Thanks for the steps but I believe that is exactly what I did. It isn't necessary to dl both the 32bit and 64bt files is it? I am running windows Vista 32 bit, I think. I created a folder in "C" drive called "mymaps". Then I downloaded the v7 and then the v8 file, to that folder. Then I double clicked on the cymps_v8_32bit.reg file. I believe it says it went to registry. BUT, I cound't open Mapsource, so I didn't have a chance to send it to Mapsourse. Something must be creating a problem and I can't figure out what it is. I had to reset my registry back to an earlier time to be able to open Mapsource. I am running the latest version of mapsource.

Ok, UNCLE, I give up. I've

Ok, UNCLE, I give up. I've tried 3 computers..windows xp, and vista and I ALWAYS get same error to reinstall mapsource. No map is worth 5 hours of work to get it to install.

Sorry

Sorry Gerrydrake,

I am on XP but other than the OS the only other difference is that you have both v7 and v8. I ony downloaded v8.

Sounds like you are doing everything right although, something just does not click.

Yeah, I know. But I also

Yeah, I know. But I also tried it on another laptop of mine that runs XP and got the exact same results. Had to do a system restore on it, too, to get my mapsource to open again. MAybe there is some small step I am doing incorrectly. I download v8, directly into the "mymaps" folder that I had created in the "C" drive. Then double clicked on the cyp file, it says it puts in the registry..and that's it..Nothing else happens and when I then try to open Mapssource, it errors out, telling me to reinstall mapsource. Odd.

New V9 Cyprus Maps

As of today (June 23) there is a new V9 Cyprus map available at http://www.cymps.com/. Maybe this will help?

There is a new install process (click on the Tutorials link). MapSetToolKit is used instead of importing a registry file.

I suspect that the older maps (V7,v8) were not compatible with the current MapSource (6.15.6) but would work if you had an older MapSource (6.13.7 or earlier).

Excellent

Thank you Waasup,

seems like the have completely refreshed their website and even added maps for Greece now (v.1).

Will know in 2 days if they trully work and will let you know over the weekend.

And indeed they do work and are relatively accurate

I am now in Cyprus and using the maps even though I have still to figure out how to enter an address and find the address.

Other than that once I put in a favorite location it can take me from any place to that place pretty easy.

.

Excellent. Enjoy Cyprus!

Excellent Map Coverage

After using the free maps for a couple of weeks I can honestly say that they are indeed of excellent quality taking me all over Cyprus, even if I haven't figured out how to type in an address (maybe they are not meant to).

But I am still struggling to load the maps of Greece from the same web site on my GPS, so I am definetely doing something wrong there with the Garmin software.

Cymps Routable Greece Map

You can't use MapSource to load the Greece map to your GPS. Manually copy the 73240000.img file to the \Garmin folder on your nuvi (or SD card) and rename it to gmapsupp.img. It will appear as "OSM Streetmap [1] Cymps.Greece_v1"

--
Nüvi 2595LMT

Can you have both Greece and Cyprus at the same time?

Thanks WAASup,

worked perfectly. Still I am not sure how to enter an address and it seems like you can only have one supplemental map at a time, so I will need to rename the map of Cyprus into something else first and then rename the map of Greece into gmapsupp.img

Thank you again for all the help,

X

Greece and Cyprus Together

sendmap20 can be used to create a gmapsupp.img file with both Cyprus (63240001.img) and Greece (73240000.img).

http://www.cgpsmapper.com/download/sendmap20.zip

EDIT: "How-to" instructions for sendmap20:

1. Change "Region name" from the default "mapset" to "Cyprus_Greece".(name will appear in Map Options on your nuvi)
2. Use the "Add maps" button to add the Cyprus and Greece .img files.
3. Use the "Create GMAPSUPP.IMG" button to build the map.
4. Copy gmapsupp.img to the \Garmin directory on your SD card or nuvi.

Thank You

Good morning WAASup,

thank you for all your help in getting this done. It allowed me to at least have a semi-usefull GPS with me in Greece (I say semi because the maps lacked knowledge of one way circulation in the downtown area, which apparently keeps changing on a yearly basis).

The maps of Cyprus were excellent and very accurate, and we survived the trip to Greece and driving in Athens for a week.

Thanks for all your help.

I downloaded the Cypru map

I downloaded the Cypru map and place the .img file in my garmin folder but could still never fiqure out a way to get it into my Mapsource. Anyone know how?

.

@zeus33:
You're welcome, Christos smile

@gerrydrake:
There is a new install process with the V9 Cyprus map. From the Main Menu, click on the Tutorials link, then "3. How to install a map in MapSource" to view the install instructions.

Thank you. I'll try that.

Thank you. I'll try that.

Typing in Addresses

Hi Gerrydrake,

one thing I didn't figure out how to do was to type in an address, but maybe I wasn't doing everything right or had the wrong setting.

Can you please let me know if you can do it?

Good luck with the installation.

Although the maps are routable, it is not possible to navigate using a street address (or intersection).

What does work with "Where To" are Cities, builtin POIs, Browse Map and favourites. To find cities in Greece (e.g. ΑΘΉΝΑ), change Mode from American English to Ελληνικά when spelling the city name.

As you've probably already discovered, street names WILL appear in the turn by turn directions (but won't get spoken if you change the language to Ελληνικά (Greek is not a TTS voice)).

Funny Pronunciation

Thanks WAASup,

I actually enjoyed the pronunciation of the street names by "Emily", lol.

In the end what I did was to zoom in and try and pick the street that I wanted to go to on the map and then navigate to that point.

For "free" maps, they more than hold their own.
