I have the opendns servers set in my router. I switched to them from my ISP's (Verizon) default DNS servers a couple months back. I couldn't tell much of a difference, but then, I'm not a sophisticated internet user, just a casual surfer and for checking email and, of course, to get to the Factory. grin

Thanks Gary.I have verizon also and was reading that it would speed up the web pages some and offer a little more security.Wanted to hear from someone before I gave it a shot. Not sure yet on settings on the modem.I just got the westell 7500 to replace the 327 so not exactly sure were the setting are yet when I open up the modem.

Sounds like you're on DSL. I'm on FiOS. Maybe the information in this forum topic will help:

I'm also a member of the DSLReports.com website forums. I've gotten a lot of good help there. They have a forum for Verizon DSL issues and questions:

Construction season here in Chicago

Summer (aka construction) season in in full force. Stay safe out there.

Watch out for those construction cameras, some of which I'm sure are strictly for revenue purposes and not for any type of worker safety.

For example, if you've taken I90-west by O'Hare, you've probably seen the "construction zone with enforcement cameras" in the quarter-mile stretch right before the Devon toll plaza. What could they be doing that takes more than a year to fix/repair/replace?

Too often, I feel some municipalities/states watched too many "Dukes of Hazzard" episodes with their revenue schemes/scams.

DNS only resolves names to IP addresses. Not sure how that would "speed up" web pages. It may speed up domain name to IP resolutions. It does offer a little security as it filters out bad sites (p0rn/malicious sites). Last, I believe they responded very quick to fix DNS cache poisoning on all of their DNS boxes.

I prefer to put DNS IPs in my computer instead of the modem/router. This way I can see what DNS I'm using.

Another way to do it is to set DNS IPs in the modem/router and set the PC to use modem internal IP address to resolve names.

I don't really like this setup because of the fact that modem/router sits at the outside perimeter of our network. It's the first device that interacts with the whole world. Imagine if someone hacks into the modem and changes DNS IP lists in the modem. Here's what's going to happen:

- You browse to your bank website to pay bills
- Your PC asks the modem
- The modem asks one of DNS IPs in the list which happens to be bad guys DNS (remember, it's been hacked).
- You get a fake IP address that belong to bad guys web server that looks like your bank website

Thanks for the advice chewbacca.I had been thinking about just putting it on the computers.Only have two computers working on wireless anyway.Good feedback. So far I have only read good reports on DNS.

But it was a nail biter. Who'd think that the Nationals would give the Yanks a run for their money.

Yes, I do.... I fly R/C aircraft as a hobby, and belong to forums on a couple of other sites. I use the same avatar, and "screen name"... grin

However, I'm not the original user, and I didn't come up with it either. I am a cat person, and I'll bet that was not a happy cat when the photo was finished. Just do a google for cat with a helment, and you'll find several, along with the origin of this one....
