Adding POI files to nuvi 260, delete old first?

I have 2 questions:

I have several custom POI files including rest areas and combined campgrounds installed and in the POI folfder on the PC. If I activate alerts, do I get an alert for every GD campground we pass or can I just get rest area alerts? And how?

I am about to add state parks. Do I clear out the files on the Nuvi and then use the Garmin loader to upload the whole file again?

Thanks, Bill

Open POI Loader and click on

Open POI Loader and click on Help for some useful information.

You will have to either use a key word in the file name or use Manual mode to set proximity distance alerts. The advantage to using key words is that you can use Express Mode. Manual mode will step you through each file.

POI Loader erases old poi.gpi file each time it runs - so you don't have to erase. You can also rename poi.gpi to poi rest area.gpi if you don't want it erased or just want to add new files. It will display file names minus the extension in the order they were loaded.

Hope this helps.

"POI Loader erases old

"POI Loader erases old poi.gpi file each time it runs"
Ah so! I had renamed the poi file so it was no longer being replaced. Thanks, Hawk. I will re-visit help and look for the key word procedure. Thanks, Bill

You can also have subfolders

You can also have subfolders in nuvi poi folder with poi.gpi files if you don't want to rename gpi files. The subfolder does not show on nuvi - but each poi.gpi is read and shows under custom pois in the order they were loaded.

>poi
>>rest area
>>>poi.gpi

>>campgrounds
>>>poi.gpi

It has been discussed in a previous thread. Let us know if you can't find it in Search.

Proximity warnings on a nuvi 260

I loaded the "combined rest areas" file on my 260. I can go to Extras; POIs; rest areas and get a full list of them, starting with the nearest. But then I need to get back to navigating, none of them show up on my map and I get no alerts as I pass them. What am I not doing? Given enough time, I can learn just about anything, but I am about to hit the road for 3 months in the mountains and am out of time.

What must I add to the file or do to make it show rest areas as I approach? Can that be done? I don't really want an audio alert unless that is needed to make it function.

I will have time to play with this more in the fall. And yes, I have been to Miss POI and to help and to several other places. Thanks in advance any help. Bill

When you loaded the combined

When you loaded the combined rest stop files did you select manual mode instead of express for poiloader? Did you set a distance in ft you want the alert for?You can add the bmp icon for the rest stops but you will have to zoom in close. The icon will show when you get close to the rest stop without zooming in.Name the bmp file the same as the csv file except for the extension and put it in the same folder .

Thanks, Charlie. I did not

Thanks, Charlie. I did not use manual. I will delete and re-install. Thanks, Bill

You can skip a step

There's no need to delete the old POIs since POILoader will overwrite the old values with the new ones when you next load POIs to your Garmin GPS.

No need to delete

No need to delete, everytime you use POI Loader, it over-writes the previous file, just use the manual mode and insert your alerts in feet.
I use approx 4000, to 5000 ft. on mine
