uploading redlight and speed cameras

I am a newbie at this. I have a Garmin 260w and I am trying to load redlight and speed cameras. I downloaded the poi loader. The files were downloaded into Excel.csv format. When I try to upload into the Garmin/GPX directory on my device, it says congratulations you've just loaded 6 points of interest. When I check the custom poi's on my Garmin, there are no cameras loaded. I've tried deleting the files and re downloading with the same results every time. Any help would be much appreciated.

Help

Are the camera/redlight csv files in the same folder that you told poi loader to load from?

.

Are you touching the Custom POIs bar on the menu screen on your nuvi?

.

First, let's correct some misconceptions:
1.) Just because you see an Excel icon next to the file when you download it to your computer does not mean it is in Excel format. The csv file is merely a text file holding tabular data, using commas to delimit the info on each line of the table into separate columns. It appears on your computer with an Excel icon because your computer is set to use Excel to open that filetype; you can change that to use notepad if you prefer.

2. POI Loader takes all the csv and gpx files in the folder that you establish as the Source folder and compiles them into a single file, POI.gpi, which it will place in the \Garmin\POI folder on either the unit or a card (whichever you prefer).

3.) The \Garmin\GPX folder contains a file, current.gpx, which is a copy of your Favorites.

4.) When you point POI Loader to Source folder, you want all of your POI files in that folder at once. It will overwrite any previous POI.gpi file, deleting any previously loaded custom POIs. There is no need to delete the previously loaded POIs before loading the new files.

5. If POI Loader is saying that it only loaded 6 locations, it definitely did not load either of the camera files. This could be because they are in the wrong folder, they are in a subfolder more than one level below the Source folder, or they have incorrect (or double) extensions.

Once you are familiar with the process, you will probably want to create categories under Extras/Custom-POIs instead of having all filenames show up together. See Motorcycle Mama's method at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/8674 .

In your post you say only 6 points of interest were loaded with poiloader.Should be more then that for redlight and speed cameras. Here is a easy way to get started loading custom pois.

Making poifiles the easy way.

1.Make a folder on your computer and give it a name. Example My poi's.
2.Download the csv or gpx file and put them in that folder.
3.If you want to add a bmp . Download from site and also add to the same folder but make sure you name them the same as the file you want them to go with except the extensions.

>My pois=Main Folder
>>Dunkin Donuts.csv
>>Dunkin Donuts.bmp
>>Walmart.csv
>>Walmart.bmp
>>Redlight cameras.csv
>>Redlight cameras.bmp
>>Speed cameras.csv
>>Speed cameras.bmp

4.Hook the gps up to computer using usb cable and then run poiloader. Select My pois folder.
5.If you want alerts use manual mode instead of express.
6.You should get message so many pois are loaded at the end of the download.
7.On GPS go to where to then extras and touch custom pois and you should see them.
8.Every time you run poiloader it will overwrite the existing files.

I see you have a 260.It will not play mp3 for alerts but can use wav files to give you voice alerts.A few things you will need to do to make it happen.

a. Download the latest PoiLoader file at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
b. Download Sox Exe at http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip .
c. After un-zipping Sox Exe file place it in your Garmin folder where the PoiLoader exe file is located on the computer.
d. The wav file for alerts will be named the same as the CSV or GPX file except for the extensions.
e. You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say or use a program to convert mp3 files to wav. When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono. Wav files are also on site for download.
Select manual mode on poiloader to set speed or distance for alert.
