Attaching pictures to favorite locations

Hello, I have a Garmin nuvi 265wt and added a 2GB SD card to store extra content. On the card, I created a JPEG folder and uploaded various pictures to attach to my favorite locations. I can attach them to the location but every time I turn off the unit the locations lose their pictures.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution? I'd like to keep as much content as possible on the SD card if I can.

Thanks,
Vinnie

Hook gps unit up to computer

Hook gps unit up to computer with the sd card in it.Copy and paste just the photos to the sd card.Edit the favorite or favorites you want the photo with and select add photo.

Attachable pictures need to be in the root folder on an SD card?

So the jpeg's need to be in the root folder of the SD card for them to stay attached?

I resized the images to save space and put them in the JPEG folder on the 265wt and they now stay attached to locations. For orgainzation's sake, I'd rather not keep them in the root folder but will if that's the only way they'll stay attached.

Although I have not tried it, I understand you can attach pictures using Extra_POI_Editor. You specify the location of the folder and picture name as one of the input fields and build a GPX file.

You can put the photos in the jpeg folder. When you plug the gps to computer just paste the photos in the folder.Remember you have to edit the custom poi you want the photo for and select the picture by touching it.
Also like A-User stated extra poi editor will allow you to link pictures to custom pois.Just click on link and select from the computer the photo you want. You will have to save as a gpx file. This free program does a lot of things.I use it to set the proximity alerts for selected custom pois.It has feature to set the whole file instead of one at a time if you want. This way allows me to use express mode instead of manual for poiloader since the alerts are now built in with the gpx file.

Resize

I noticed Vinnie said he resized the photos. What size did you resize them to and is this required? I have a 2 gig card with all the room in the world on it. Guess the small screen and resolution of the GPS unit doesn't take advantage of high resolution pictures.

I think you are

I think some of you are misinterpreting the OP's question. I read it to be not about POI's and I do not find what charlesd45 said works.

Vinnie, if you are attaching photos to destinations in your Favorites list, I have found the same thing with my 765T - those pictures seem to have to be on the Garmin itself, not the SD card. Otherwise as you find after turning off the Garmin the photo is no longer is associated with the favorite. So far it seems they can be any size or resolution however as long as they are on the Garmin itself.

They will work from the sd

They will work from the sd card.

Yes, it's favorite locations I've entered manually, not POIs

Thanks for confirming tampa8. I'll just resize the pics to the garmin's screen resolution to save space and keep them on the device itself for now.

You are right Tampa8.Tried it on my 265.Once you boot back up the pictures are still there on the sd card but no longer linked to the favorite.Only way I found was to store them to the unit also.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

GeePeeX editor is your answer

In my experience, you don't need to resize the image unless you just want a smaller file to save disk space. I haven't resized any of mine but the Nuvi displays them just fine.

If you want to attach pics to your POIs, spend a few dollars and buy GeePeeX editor. It is ridiculously easy to use and maintain custom POIs. The trial version allows you to create a file with 5 POIs for free to test it out.
