ive plugged it into my wall.. and even onto my usb on my computer.. why the hell isnt this thing turning on??

no nothing appears on the screen. no sound from my pc indicating a new device is plugged in.
i attached the traffic receiver and it is not lighting up.

im not really one to cmplain really.. when i ahd my 660, i was almost ghost here... now ive been posting posting and its a lot of my frustration on 765t. dang it.

.

Try to reset it. Slide the power switch to the left and hold it there for approx 10 seconds. After you've done this, try and turn it on again.

765t issue

I believe that Korndogg stated that nothing is happening at all, so turning on and off the switch might not do much, doesn't that model have a removable battery? I would suggest removing the battery, waiting ten seconds and replace and see if it does anything, otherwise it looks like Garmin is getting a call from you soon. Just try not to be too combattive with the person on the phone, remember your sanity and integrity is more important than a GPS unit

I think the removable batter

I think the removable batter is only in the 800 series.

?

What I posted above performs a reset on the unit which does essentially the same thing as a battery removal sequence does on the 8x0/8x5. You cannot remove the battery on the 765 that the OP has so the reset replicates the battery removal. As per the nuvi 765 owner's manual on page 62:

Quote:

The nuvi is locked up/frozen: If the nuvi screen stops functioning, turn on the nuvi, then turn off the nuvi. If this does not help, slide the power key to the left and hold if for 8 seconds. Turn on the nuvi again. The nuvi should operate normally.

my friends, i spoke to garmin and they told me to just ship it back.

Byte the bullet!

I understand your frustration, from what I have read you should realize that the unit is damaged. By any chance could it have been dropped previously? Sounds like something internal was damaged when electrical power was supplied. I would contact Garmin and see what they suggest.

nope

its new.. never dropped. i got the super uber case instead of the flimsy one. i never kept it in the car. heck ill pay u if you saw my fingerprint on it.

Pull the protector off and scuff it up or scratch it somehow before sending the GPS to Garmin for replacement. Zagg will replace it at no charge. See the website for details.

Just bring it back

Reset the unit to factory defaults. Have you tried a 'master reset'? That's the one where you power it on with your finger in the corner and 'erase all data'?

If that doesn't work and if you bought it at a 'big box store' and it is less than 30 days old, most of them will simply exchange it over the counter.

More Nuvi 765 problems

I took my new nuvi 765 on a trip from South Carolina to Memphis then to Ohio, Virginia, and back to South Carolina. I was very disappointed with the unit.
I completely charged the unit prior to my trip. The unit never showed a complete charge and the battery lost charge quickly when not plugged in. Traveling through Kentucky to Ohio the unit took me on a small road (15 ft wide) through the mountains for about 30 miles. While traveling from Virginia to South Carolina the unit had me exit off I-95 only to reenter on the same exit it took me off. Then while traveling on I-95 the unit decided to stop working then after about an hour it decided to work again, At no point in my trip did I see the Lane assist of photo of the exit appear.
I guess the reliability of my nuvi 660 spoiled me because what is the use of a GPS if it his not reliable. I will stick with my nuvi 660 until Garmin can fix the bugs with a new model.

Topics like this one make me glad I stuck with my 660. It just works. Not fancy with all the latest bells and whistles, but it works.

its a freakn hassle to do that though. you have to send it back because they want to recycle it. even that would cost money. thats the biggest b.s. that they consider service.

Static Electricity

Sometimes static electricity can affect electronics. I wipe my screen with an anti-static computer screen wipe to reduce the static build up.
Jen

well

i based my purchase on positive reviews on amazon and gpsmagazine. i thought i was getting the better worth between the 760 and the 765t. i was hoping the higher price meant SOMETHING. it was good when it worked.. but i cant believe it died the way it did. no drop, no nothing. i took care of it like an egg. this is the first time in my life i had to return A product because it wasnt working. ive never had to go through that hassle. i had just become a damn statistic. darn it. my item should arrive in kansas tomorrow.. when ill get my item back, who knows when.

Referb

Most likely, you will get a refurbished unit returned to you. Check the serial number and compare it to your original unit's number.

Like my 650

I been thinking about a new gps, one for routing, BUT with all the problems i have seen on here with the 700 and 800 series i think i am going to hold onto my 650 for another year.

Same thing happened to me.

Same thing happened to me. The unit just died. Out of the blue. Completely unresponsive. I wish I had stayed with my 660.

Happy

Like some others, after reading some of these posts, I'm happily staying with my 660. That's one of the reasons I went ahead and spent the extra money and bought the Lifetime maps. I plan on having the 660 around for a long time.

i had a 660 and that thing is borderline chickmagnet cus i was the only one in the block with a gps that is bluetooth, an mp3 player, speaks streets, and is a wide clear screen. my 765t basically was a let down. im afraid that if i get it, n it dies again just missing the get a 'new' unit and they give me some refurb. id be PISSED.

765T

Sorry to hear that you are having the problem. I have had my 765T for six months and it has been working great. However, my cradle of all things just went out on me. Garmin is sending me a new one. I may of had the same Customer Service rep., as she was really sweet and helpful! It's a giant paid to deal with.

Good luck!

765T vs 680

I have had a 680 for about 1-3/4 years and, while very reliable, there are two things that have really annoyed me about it. So much so, that I just bought a 765T. I am still within the store return window and am now worried about the 765 based on the comments here.

My 680 was fine until a few months after I got it, Garmin issued a firmware update that was required to keep the MSN traffic receiver working. After I installed it two things were missing: (1) The "North Arrow" (I prefer to have the unit in " Track Up" mode most of the time) and (2) the little distance scale.

When traveling, the distance scale (while hard to read, since it is so small) was great to estimate how much farther the next town was... I have been forced to enter the town as a new destination to see how far away it was. Painful! Also, it is nice to have some idea if you are going in the right direction by looking at the "North Arrow." Since the 680 lost that with the firmware upgrade, I was ticked every time I took a trip. On the open road, I usually set it to "North Up" so I could confirm that I was heading the way I intended. In town, "North Up" is very confusing.

Now I have the 765T and will be taking it on a long trip to Montreal and the East Coast (next week). I am tempted to carry the 680 with me just in case.

So far, I have had only one issue with the 765... the touch screen sometimes selects the wrong item when I make a choice. (I do not have a screen protector on it yet, but intend to get one.) Especially when touching near the lower right corner of the screen. The internal speaker also sounds somewhat tinny, and sounds 'cracked' when the volume is at 80 or higher.

Any suggestions on whether to keep the 765??? I was going to sell the 680, but now I will wait!

Thanks,
-Herschel

.

i'd wait. by the way fellas, I received a package from garmin on June 15. i'm not going to open it of course until i get my screen protector from invisible shield once more *sigh*.. that means another week, and another $15 out of me.

765 Touch Screen

Has anyone else had any issues with the touch screen on the 765?

765 Touch Screen

My 765 touch screen has been fine. Once in a while I will hit the wrong key on the keypad (because the key icons are so small) while inputting an address, but that is about it.
