Had it happen on 755T

It happened to me several times with my 755T back in February when I was on a road trip. I think at that time I was on 3.10 software and map version 2009.11 It seemed to happen with a combination of at least 2 of these 3 things occurring: 1)receiving a traffic signal, 2)getting a proximity alert 3) using the MP3 player.

It hasn't happened since that trip and since upgrading to 3.40 software and the 2010 maps. But then I don't receive traffic service where I live, so it is hard to tell if I still have the problem.

Do you have the lastest

Do you have the lastest software?

When you say shuts off, does it just shut off or do you get the message it will turn off. Is it plugged in at the time it does it?

.

I had a 755T for a month and it would shut off at least once a week. I bought it when it first came out and returned it within 30 days. I never found out the cause. It is very frustrating. I thought the newer firmware got rid of that problem.

That stinks korndogg, I know you waited a while to get a good one and now this happens... rolleyes I hope it works out for you.

Had to return my 765T for shutting off

I had a Nuvi 780 and after about 10 months, one day I cut it on and it came on but kept shutting on and shutting off and wouldn't go past the login screen. I then went back to Best Buy and exchanged it but I was told that the 780 was discontinued, so they gave me a 765T.

After a month or so, as of yesterday when I was driving home from a long trip I saw it just black out. The 765T just cut off. It never came back on. I tried everything. So I ended up taking it to Best Buy and exchanging for another 765T. Has anyone else had this same problem?

I'm starting to believe it's the Garmin firmware updates. Because the Nuvi 780 started acting up 2 days prior to doing all the updates. About 2 nights ago I did the updates to my 765T and then this happens today. I also use the MSN Receiver. I wonder might that have anything to do with it. Can anyone give me any insight?

How did you get it to turn back on?

How long did it take before it came back on? Did you have to do anything special to get it back on?

i kept trying to turn it

i kept trying to turn it on... it took awhile for it to turn on after numerous sliding of that power button. im glad my next turn was another mile down. had i missed that, i would have ran into a speed trap and become late to my destination.

Won't turn back on.

I had the same problem and sometimes had a hard time getting my 755T to come back on after it shut down. On one occasion, I had to wait about 15 minutes before it would turn on again.

At the time of the shutdown, were you using the FM traffic receiver (power cord) and in an area where you were receiving the Navteq traffic service? Were you using the MP3 player?

Check your Software version. The most current is 3.40. I had a reboot problem with 3.10. I know its not the same but if you have a software update available you should try it. When all else fails call Garmin or return it for a new one.

My 755T did this as well when I first received it. I have not had a shut down since I upgraded to the new firmware. I had to be doing at least two of the above and also I would add that with all three going re routing would also crash the unit

I am planning on 785, does it have the same problem?

i wasnt using mp3. and its a part of a city where ive used my 660 in the past with no issue.. it was just a random shutdown like it did before.

The best answer is to make

The best answer is to make sure you have the latest software. Just because you just bought it in no way means it has the latest. It could have easily been sitting on the shelf for awhile.

On the good side of things, with the latest software and maps the 765T and others in the series seems to be working great. I no longer have any shutdowns, and map functions all work as they were designed to....

It could be firmware.

My inlaw got problem and called in and the support to do the firmware update and it fixed it.

Power?

I'm curious but could the unit be out of power? Maybe the cigarett charger is faulty and not always charging you GPSr and when the battery is empty the unit shutts off. Perhaps you can keep an eye on the battery charge level and see if that may be the problem. Maybe the battery doesn't get a full charge.

My previous two 765s died

My previous two 765s died when they got shut down abruptly. My first unit used to shut down for no reason but will come on after few tries. But one day, it got shutdown permanently.

Sent it back to Garmin Repair Center, they sent me another refurb unit, it lasted about a week and shut down agian for ever.

Sent it back and got another reburb unit. After few days, it got shut down again. Luckily, I was able to turn it on next day and it is still working and no more shutdowns.

I have noticed that if I use MP3 player, the unit becoem very hot and may be that can cause shutdown too. I stopped using MP3 player and it is not hot anymore.

Initially I had problems pairing my Nokia N95 phone with it. it will cause reboots. But luckily, this third unit started pairing nicely without any problems.
