I see that Costco has the Garmin 885T for $299.00 after a $200 savings. I wanted to get some feedback on what everyone thinks of this model. Is it a good choice as a replacement.
good deal
did u check the reviews on amazon.com ? looks like a good deal

when Costco has a Garmin
Product it can only mean one thing for that model number, Garmin is dumping it and clearing the warehouse.
With that said make sure to do a search here on POI Factory on the 885T and see what everyone has to say about the unit or if they had any problems with the unit and make your decision from there.

The one I see at Costco for $299.99 is the 855 model without traffic not the 885T.
Where did you see the 885T for that price?

I agree that when Costco has a model it's on its way out. Could be the best way to get a good deal, and with Costco's return policy if there are any real deal breakers in actual use then it's a pretty risk free way of finding them out.

good deal
I think Costco has a good deal going on, and if I was ready to change GPS, I would consider getting this model at this price.

no bluetooth, no traffic receiver
This is a 8xx without bluetooth, nor traffic receiver though the capabilities for MSN Direct and traffic are there.
It seems good for people do not intend to use bluetooth (for example vehicle already has it) or not intend to subscribe traffic.
Lane assistance is very attractive, IMO.
Garmin 885T
I have three Garmins, a GVN53 that we have installed in a motorhome and view on a dash mounted screen and also on all televisions.
The original Garmin is a GPS III that is just sitting here gathering dust.
The third is an 885T that I bought to use in the care pulled behind the motorhome. This is probably my favorite. Had it replaced after a few weeks as the system froze. Garming was good about handling the replacement.
Then I had it sitting unused for two or three months and again had issues with screen freeze. Called Garmin and they had an updated software download. This totally fixed the problem and all is perfect again. I used it last week on a quick trip Dallas, Texas. The lane detail is phenomonal and helpful. I wouldn't change for any others I have tested. Also subscribed to the MSN service that provides many services but I saw a note recently that the MSN service will be discontinued in a couple years.
The saddest part is that the price is now about three hundred reduced from when I bought mine. I thought it was worth the original price but know it is worth the new and lower price for sure.
855 is a great unit...
I agree, the 855 is a great unit. And especially so since it's now under $200. I got mine a couple weeks ago for $199 and since then, it has dropped to $189 (Amazon prices). For under $200, this unit is outstanding.

Garmin 855
I just got mine from Wallmart for $189. It did a software and map update as soon as I plugged it in and seems to work great... I drive a 33' class A motorhome and the voice command works fantastic...

Just know that when Costco gets a unit, it's been discontinued by Garmin already.
I bought my 255W a year ago from Costco and Garmin is still selling them today. I guess your not a Costco fan.

I also just noticed that the 885t is on the "Discontinued" list on the Garmin site.
When did they discontinue it ?
I wonder what will replace it that has Voice recognition ?
I have recently invested in the 885t and am sad to see it discontinued already... but that seems to be the trend with Garmin now-a-days.
MSN Direct
Garmin discontinued all the x85 units on Dec. 31 because of MSN Direct going away in Jan. 2012. But removing the 885T does leave a hole in the Garmin lineup ... no unit currently available with voice recognition and blue tooth. I assume the reason they don't bundle a 8x5 with a GTM 20/free Navteq lifetime is because the 8x5 doesn't have the programming to support the ads.

They sell a 865t model in Europe with european maps and FM traffic receiver.
I use the GTM 20 FM traffic receiver with both Navteq and Clear Channel lifetime subscriptions with my 885T and it works great.

True.
8x5/GTM 20 works with paid traffic subscription services, but doesn't work with the ad supported "free" Navteq lifetime service.

Maybe we'll see Garmin release a new iteration of the 885 but packaged with the GTM-20 FM Receiver.
I still wonder if maybe some company would want to buy or take over the MSN Direct operation and continue on with it.
Although, if Microsoft could not make enough money with the service, I doubt someone else woul either.
