How do I load two maps on my SD card?

I have City navigator NT Europe 2009 on my SD card. I want to load City navigator NT North America 2010 on the SD card also. But every time I up load City navigator NT North America 2010 it over writes my City navigator NT Europe 2009. It seems to only let you put one map image on the card!
Anybody no how I go about putting both these maps on the same SD card.
Thanks.

Irish.

Perhaps you can use 2 SD cards

SD cards are relatively cheap. To avaoid the problem of placing 2 maps on the one card (size issue) just put the 2 maps on seperate cards.

2 SD cards.

Thanks for your reply. But it does not answer my question. There is no problem with size as it is a 4 gig card.

move and copy

One option for doing this would be:
1) Copy the Europe files to the SD card,
2) then plug the SD card into whatever needed on your PC (be it USB adapter, digital camera connected via USB, printer USB reader port, whatever).
3) Copy the "garmin" folder from the SD card to your desktop.
4) plug the SD card back into the GPS unit and copy the North America to the SD card
5) plug the SD card back into the computer and compare the files in the SD card versus the ones in the garmin folder on the desktop. If there are any of the same named files, then it may not work. If not then copy the files from the desktop to the SD card and you will now have the choice of which maps to use.
I do not know if you can put them in their own subfolders under the "garmin" folder, say one as EUR and the other as NA? Can anyone chime in whether this works or not?

Another alternative is to install MapSource and see if it will let you load both NA and Europe and then just highlight both then copy to the SD card.

I do not have any maps other than the US 2008 maps on my c330 and the 2010 maps on my SD card, no Europe maps.

my exact thoughts. i would

my exact thoughts. i would like to know if that works.

FYI: it think it would be slower if the maps are located on the sd card though.

speed

The SD card uses pretty much the same type and speed of memory found in most SD cards. I found in my usage, I see no speed differences using the 2010 maps on my SD card compared to the original built in 2008 maps.

To do this, you'd need to have both maps you want to send to the SD Card installed & accessible within MapSource, then select and rebuild the map file with those maps.

The only map file that is accessible by the nuvi on the SD Card is gmapsupp.img in the x:/Garmin folder.

This will work on a 760; don’t know about the xx5 Nuvis, but should work on a 660. Hookup your Nuvi or SD card reader to your computer, make sure to have a Garmin dir on the SD card and no other map file in that dir. You need to have both maps installed in MapSource or it will not work. In MapSource select the Europe 2009 map and with the map tool highlight everything you want to copy to the SD card. At the bottom left corner select Map set name, uncheck autoname and call it ALL. Now do the same for the North America 2010 map. Make sure the Map size (lower left corner in MapSource) will fit your SD card. Hit SEND to DEVICE and pick your SD card. Depending on how fast your computer is and if you are using the Nuvi or a card reader it can take several hours to compile the maps and write them to the card. When done there will be one file in Garmin dir on the SD card. Insert the SD card into the Nuvi and start it, go to Tools/Settings/Map/Map Info, and check the one you want to use. Like I said, it will work on a 760.
Enjoy!!

In MapSource, use the Map Tool to select the map segments/tiles from CN Europe, then (BEFORE YOU SEND THEM TO THE UNIT) use the drop down list to change to CN North America. Then select the map segments from that product. Then once ALL the segments from ALL the map products are selected, click the "Send to GPS" button and send ALL of them at the SAME time.

Note, it will take a while to load so leave it processing until it's done.

Thanks.

Thanks for all the great responses. I knew i could count on the POI Factory peeps. I will try what was said and will let you all know if they work.

Thanks!

more than 1 map

it is actually a million times more simple than that this is all u need to do

Just copy to your garmin device or in the garmin folder on the SD card.
use the name:
GMAPPROM.IMG for the primary mapset
or rename to:
GMAPSUPP.IMG for the second, and
GMAPSUP2.IMG for the third mapset

Did not work.

Well i tried re-naming the file to GMAPSUP2.IMG but the garmin did not recognize it after i changed the file name. I changed it back to gmapsupp.img and it worked. I tried the other way mentioned and it did not work either.
Oh well!! I'll keep plugging away at it.

.

The nuvi will only recognize ONE map file on the SD card and it must be named gmapsupp.img and reside in the x:/Garmin folder. Naming it something else will not work. The different names that I mentioned in my other post that I linked to will only work on the nuvi drive, NOT the SD Card.
