4.3" vs. 5" Displays

Nuvi 1490T will have a 5" display.

Does size really matter in this case? How beneficial would it be for navigation?

Your opinions please.

Thanks.

larger is better

Having a larger screen is better to see more in a single view but the downside is that it's a bit larger to carry around too.

Larger Better?

I like the larger screen but since I use a vent mount there is also the problem of hiding some radio controls.

Bigger is better

TV's and Plasma screens, LCD's etc. are all getting bigger for a reason, Much more "data" to be seen, very much clearer than before.

For navigation, I don't think you'd need to see more "data" in my opinion.

Maybe more data is personal preference then...

One thing I do like about the 1490T: the ability to have supplementary data on-screen at all times. For example, on a right hand side bar, I have Arrival Time, Distance to Destination, Time Remaining to Destination, and by default from the GPSr, the Speed and speed limit.

What that means is, with the 5" screen, I still have enough navigation screen left over that it's still larger than the entire screen of 3.5" unit. I'd say that's worth the extra screen space.

Having a 3.5 and 4.3 I find

Having a 3.5 and 4.3 I find benefits for both form factors.
The 3.5, I can just grab and run with it. Usually when in a friends car.
The 660(4.3) is the workhorse.

5 inches? Not worth the premium cost right now.
I'm sure they will fall to commodity pricing. When they do, then I'll look closer at em.

Best screen size...

I've also had a 3.5 and a 4.3... I actually prefer as small and portable as possible. Something even smaller than a 3.5 is probably okay for me too. As long as it has an arrow telling me where to turn then it's fine!! smile
