Save Location.

Hi.
Does anybody know how big the Save Location is for a 255W? I went 2.4 miles from my house and thought I was pretty save. I locked the GPS and drove home. In the driveway I could unlock it. Any thoughts?
Thank you.

If you are speaking about

If you are speaking about the security lock for your unit? The location you set the pin number at is the location for your security location. It you set it for your home once you enter back to that location the lock is turn off.

The security location is to allow you to turn the gps on in the event you cannot remember the 4-digit code; at that point you could reset the code.

You say, "In the driveway I could unlock it." If you mean you unlocked it with the code, then that is the way it works. You would continue to to unlock the unit with that code whenever you are NOT at your security site.

If you set the code and security location at the remote site, and you can now turn on the unit on at home without using the code, that should NOT be the case. I'd try it again at a closer security site; if it still won't work, call Garmin.

Like I said. I was 2.4 Miles away from my driveway when I set the lock. Later in my driveway I could unlock the unit and I shouldn't be able to because I was 2.4 Miles from the security site.

What do you mean by unlock?

Are you saying that when you turn the unit on in your driveway it is unlocked without you having to enter the unlock code or do you mean that you enter the 4 digit pin to unlock it when your in your driveway?

If the 1st then something is wrong, try redoing it.
If the 2nd, as another poster stated, that's the way it works.

Do you think that the intention of the security site is to make you drive to the security site every time you want to turn on your gps? No, it it only necessary to go there when you don't know the code. Please reread my post.

Just what do you mean when you say

What exactly do you mean when you say you "unlocked" the unit? If you mean the unit was off in your drive and when you turned it on it went ready to navigate the unit was not properly locked.

If you mean you turned on the unit and had to enter your code, then the unit is working just like it should.

Per page 41 of your manual.
1.Touch Tools,Settings and Security.
2.Touch button below Garmin lock.
3.Enter 4 digit pin number and drive to a security location.

Your security location should be a location you return to often, such as your home.If the Nuvi has a satellite signal and you are at the security location, you do not need to enter a pin number.
