Includes 21 locations in the following areas:

  • Canada: AB, MB, NB, NL, NS, ON, PE, QC

Catholic Basilicas are divided into classes, major ("greater"), and minor basilicas. The four major basilicas are all located in Rome. There are approximately 1500 minor basilicas located on all continents. 21 basilicas are located in Canada. Notre-Dame de Québec Cathedral in Quebec City was the first basilica in North America, so designated by Pope Pius IX in 1874.
