Remove unnecessary voices to save space?

219 MB of memory space on my nuvi 760 is occupied by voices I have no need for, but since I might want to sell the unit someday I don't intend to delete them.

Is there any harm in relocating them off the nuvi in the meantime?

No Problem

There's no harm at all JD. In fact it's a good idea to back up the entire GPS onto another computer in your home. Just create a folder "GPS Backup" and copy all the GPS folders/applications/voices/poi's etc to it. That way no matter what you do, modifying voices, or whatever, you can always return to square one. You'll also have backup for all the voices you delete.

(1) You could copy all those unwanted files to a PC, delete them from the GPS put them bac if you ever dump the unit.

(2) you could simply delete them and if you ever sell the unit, use the WebUpdater to re-instll them.

if you don't want them, just get rid of them if you feel you nee the room.

needed the space

I had to remove most of the voices..when I upgraded my 660 to 2009 maps. there wasn't enough room to install without taking them off...I have backed it up on both my hard drive and I burned a DVD disc that is the entire system also..thought about just buying one of those cheap 2 gig flash drives but DVD was cheaper

This probably applies to all models..

From Garmin's site regarding freeing space for map updates on the Nuvi 200:

Link - http://tinyurl.com/bjceg4

"Question: How do I get more space on my nüvi 200 or nüvi 200W for the map update?

Answer: If you receive an error message stating, "There is not enough free space on your Garmin GPS. You need an additional XX MB on your Garmin GPS for the application to continue.", please follow these steps to free up more space on your nüvi 200 or nüvi 200W:

1. Connect the nüvi to the computer with a USB cable.
2. Find your My Computer icon and double click on it or you may find it in you Start menu and click on it.
3. Double click on the nüvi() drive listed under devices with removable storage.
4. Double click on the Garmin folder.
5. Double click on the Voice folder.
6. Delete any unused voice language (be sure to keep your preferred language).
7. Return to the Garmin folder. Repeat steps 5-7 with Text/Help folders.

After the files are deleted, please run the map update again."
