Strange behaviour of Nuvi 765T

Couple of days ago my 765 behaved in a very strange way. Sorry, I did not get time to share it with you guys. I went to a mall around 1:30 PM EST for 10 minutes. When I came back in my car and started it. My 765 started as well but in night mode showing time 8 PM. And then I saw warning on the screen that my maps are more than a year old..should get new maps..
And then I saw another message "Downloading Firmware".
Comleted 1% and then it got stuck on acquiring satellite signal. It did same thing few times but then I shut it down for few minutes. Turned it on after few minutes and then everything came up normally. So I don't know what was going on.

My Nuvi 200 didn't

do anything like that, but it did start up once and showed me in the middle of a lake, that is about 4 miles from where I live.

Not doing anything worth a darn.

delayed update

Did you run WebUpdater on the unit sometime prior to this happening? Sometimes, updates that are installed by WebUpdater can take a few power cycles to actually be installed. The updates are actually files that are copied to the nuvi and run at the next power cycle by the nuvi itself. WebUpdater NEVER actually performs updates on the unit itself, it only downloads, then copies the update file(s) to the nuvi that then performs the update at the next (or sometimes after a few) power cycle.

I don't remember exactly but may be I did firmware 3.10 upgrade prior to that. May be a day earlier. I think you are absolutely right. It could have been residual of 3.10 firmware upgrade.

Today, I down graded

Today, I down graded firmware to 3.0. But tonight, again I got that message "GPS Firmware being upgraded". It went up to 100% and then everything was normal. I checked firmware version it was still 3.0.

My 765T did exactly the same

My 765T did exactly the same thing...twice.... exactly the same thing. I traded it for the 785T and have not seen a repeat, since. Between this and the rebooting and the bluetooth and map problems, something very odd is going on wih the 7x5 series and it very difficult to get Garmin to recognize it. I'm ready to wash my hands of the whole 7x5 series until Garmin gomes up with a fix. Way too may people have reported these problems and Garman just hasn't a clue.

.

Note that your unit also has what is called GPS Chipset Software (or firmware) code which is different than your main unit System Software (or firmware). There can actually be two different "firmware" updates applied as they are indeed separate aspects of the unit.

And just like with the 7x0 series, each 7x5 "update" may fix or correct an issue but breaks something else in the process. The cycle goes on and on...then it's time for Garmin to release a "new" model, with it's own bugs on top of the bugs carried over from previous model since they are based on the same basic hardware and software. This has been the nuvi line ever since it's inception.

I have a 785T, mine did the same thing. I guess it's a firmware issue?
