Garmin Maps

Is there any Garmin maps for truckers. Too many times my Garmine wants to send me down a back country road that I should not be on.

Set Avoidances

You can tell the Garmin you are in a truck and also you can Avoid certain roads.

not always ....

you are correct in that you can set you preferences to "Truck/Bus" on a nuvi 6x0 ... however, this option has been removed from many of the newer garmins. I'm not sure if this setting is available in the nuvi 200 preferences.

also, while you can set "avoidances" to avoid things like toll roads, ferries, unpaved roads etc., you cannnot avoid a specific road. the garmin line does not offer that feature.

check this truck unit out

I had one of these come through my hands not to long ago, took it in on trade and then sold it in short time to a driver. I personally haven't used the unit, although reports back have been very positive. I must say this unit you won't be carrying around with you, but rather put it in your truck safe, it's weight is crazy.

If you can't find a Garmin, and I don't think you will that is specific for the trucking industry, then check out the unit link below.

7" Display, 9 levels of Hazmat,truck routing, ,truck stops,weigh stations,12 milion poi's w/phone numbers

WorldNav devices can be customized to fit your truck’s exact height, length and weight. Unlike standard GPS solutions, our GPS devices automatically create routes that are specifically suitable for trucks, taking into account low bridges, weight restrictions, and unpaved roads, or any other route that isn’t for trucks. If the route isn’t passable by truck, that route will appear in pink on your screen to act as a guide. If you must make a local delivery, the driver can choose to ignore the local restrictions as necessary. The driver can easily decipher why a particular area is restricted.
