My wife has the GPS with her on a trip... She came across an interesting question which I didn't have an answer for.. Let's hope you guys do!
When trying to get it to take her somewhere, it wanted to route her along all of the surface streets and absolutely did NOT want to her to use the interstate or major highways. Is there a setting which would change that so that major highways (and maybe even toll roads) would be preferred?
-Michael
yes
tell her to click on "tools > settings > Navigation > avoidances " and there will be a list of avoidances. Make sure highways are not checked to be avoided.

Also....
My Nuvi 750 routed me all around downtown Buffalo when I had it route from Cleveland to Niagara Falls. I learned from these boards that if you have the Nuvi route before it acquired satellites then it may have a goofy route. Now I always wait for a satt. fix before asking for a route.
Make sure the Mode is Automotive
I have, in the past, forgotten to switch back to Automotive after having it set to Pedestrian or Bicycle. This will also keep you off the interstates.
