Help with BMP

I have a nuvi 285 and have been trying to load bmp files and not getting anything. The poi's load just fine but leave a square where the image would be. Have both files with the same name in the poi folder.

Help!

Thanks

Zonie

Did you make your own BMP icons?

Did you make your own BMP icons or did you download them? I hope someone is testing the icons on this site, but I wouldn't put complete faith in that.

The icons must be 256 color index color mode, not 16 bit, 24 bit or 32 bit color, should be no larger than 24x24 and (according to some reports) at least one side should be an even number of pixels.

If you don't know what mode your icons are in. you can get a great graphics viewer and tool from www.irfanview.net and check them (open the file with the program, then under the image menu item pick "information", the top choice.

Downloaded from here. I

Downloaded from here. I have been experimenting with the QT(Quik-Trip) logo. 256 bit 24x24 and it ain't loading!

I grabbed a copy, looks OK

I grabbed a copy, looks OK to me, 256 indexed color, 24x24. When I got my copy the extension came down as a capitalized BMP, not bmp. I'm not sure if that will be a problem or not, I've always used .bmp for my files with POI loader.

Other than the case issue, you might want to try using a different icon from a different POI set, just as a test to see if the problem is something with this specific icon or if it's something else, perhaps related to POI loader or some other part of the process.

Alternately, try using the software that I pointed you to resizing it to a slightly smaller icon, say 20x20, save that, and see if the new icon behaves any differently.

Are you sure you don't have a double extension?

This is the most common error for the bmp to not display if they are named identically excluding the extension.
edit i.e. qt.bmp.bmp.. with the folder open that contains the bmp, click on tools>folder options>view and make sure "hide extensions of know file types" is not checked...

Thanks for the good link. (freeware is always nice smile)
I have found that the 2xx series has been very picky when it comes to bmp's and other files. The viewer helps to see the colr mode...ect
