nuvi 765 POI pooh :-(

So this bud of mine got a 765 for Christmas, used it about 3 times in the car locally, and then added a few POI's and a TourGuide or two. Then he put a map or two on a (non-Garmin) SD card, and also started renaming a few maps (see below) and putting them in different spots on the nuvi as well as the SD card so he could understand how many extra maps he could have on it and what names they needed to be/where they were recognized.

At no time did he change or otherwise mess with (so he says) gmapprom, gmapbmap, gmaptz, or gmap3d .img or .sum files in the Garmin folder on the unit itself. He did the same with his trusty old 200W and life is good with it.

But now the 765 seems to have nothing in the Points of Interest menu other than "Spell Name" and nothing typed into that comes up with any matches.

Aren't the built-in POI's embedded into the gmapprom map file? And if the map looks fine (which it does and the unit has no extra maps on it & SD card is out) what else would blitz the POI menu??

Before registering the unit and also after, all of the files and folders were backed up on a PC, so I (err...he) has that as a last resort, but this is curious to say the least.

I'd really like to (err.. I mean he'd really like to) figure this out especially since I (err.. he) has been playing with it constantly on the PC and won't let his wife use it in the car until he "improves" it! She's gonna kill me (err..I mean him) if he can't fix it.
