Magellan Problems

Anyone else have these problems with their Magellan?
1) Tapping the screen sometimes register as a double tap.
2) If the brightness is set to 1 or 2, the unit will change itself to 3.

Not yet

I haven't noticed anything like that on my 4250

What model do you have? If you are not going to mention that in your messages, you should at least have it in your profile. Magellan, over the years, has made about 5 distinct model lines.

1) Try a firm momentary push instead of a "tap".

2) Nope. Never heard of that on any model.

Sometimes a reset will do

Periodically my 3250 acts strange or not as it should and a reset seems to do the trick and bring it back.

No Problem

Thanks for all the replies. It's a RoadMate 1412. I have tried pressing slowly, quickly, with my fingernail, different fingers, stylus, etc... It still happens intermittently. The brightness resetting to 3 is very annoying.

A thought

Since your model is radically different from the 2 Maestro's I've had this may not be a factor but......

On mine I have noticed that sometimes the CPU is "busy" with something else and doesn't acknowlege the screen press with a click, even though it really registered. If you wait a few seconds, it then responds. If you don't have the patience or don't realize what is going on and hit it a second time, then you get a double hit.

This happens most often right after startup when it is doing SAT acquisition and when a route is active and you are moving.

Another Thought?

If the above doesn't work - then...

no scientific evidence, however it sounds an awful lot like many Pocket PC's or Palm Pilot's I've seen over the years. Could be a bad or loose cable inside the unit causing this.

Good Luck...

And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .

Same problem with brightness

My unit will reset the nighttime brightness. I contacted the factory about it and they first told me that it was a "known" bug. After that,I could not get anyone to confirm that comment and had to settle for an RMA. I'll see if the next one does the same...

Night mode

Might not be a factor but the Magellans switch to night mode based on an "estimate" of sunrise and sunset.......so it might be off as much as an hour.

AND if your internal clock is wrong for some reason, then who knows when it will change.
