Nat. Geo. Topos

I've been using Garmin's topos, for the U.S. and Canada for a few years. They're 1:100K, and relatively inexpensive, and easy to use.

Someone gave me Nat. Geo's topo program for xmas, and I'm pulled in both directions by it. It offers 1:24K maps, with much finer details, but it surprisingly lacks a lot of street names that Garmin's offer. It's also a far more expensive system, if you travel beyond a single state or two.

So, I was wondering what others have experienced with Nat. Geo's package, in terms of usefulness for hiking and kayaking/canoeing, as to usefulness of details, accuracy, etc.
