tips for a week in hawaii?

i'm going to hawaii next week and spending a week there. Will be leaving form LAX to HNL. I've rented a car x7 days (arggh...I was stupid cuz no refunds...) via priceline. Just thought about going to maui or big island too. Saw a poi file w/ someone's hawaii trip. Will be carrying around nuvi. Are list minute flights from hnl to maui in the $180's range? Once I get to maui, is the a reputable tour company? thanks.

island hopping

island hopping is real easy ... a few airlines (Mesa, Hawaii Airlines(?), +) all fly loads of inter-island flights each day.

when we went I booked my inter-island in advance, and while that is recommended, if you're flexible you'd probably be fine

Punchbowl National Cemetary

Since you have your Nuvi, pay a visit to the Punchbowl National Cemetary in Honolulu. Its a national Military cemetary in the crater of an inactive volcano. It also has the national memorial for all missing in action service people for the Pacific. Very impressive memorial and it hidden away in a residential area.

Like djs said, there are two airlines which fly multiple inter-island flights daily. Your best bet is Hawaiian Airlines.

If you are willing to spend a little extra time you might want to check out the Hawaii Superferry. The cost per person is the same as flying, but you get a 3 hour sea cruise thrown in. If you want to take your rental car on the ferry it is $65 so you wouldn't have to rent a car on Maui.

As far as tour companies you really don't need one. Check out Frommer's http://www.frommers.com/destinations/maui/
