Not so "Honey" a Moon in Vegas!

I "commute" between Tempe, AZ and Las Vegas and was in Vegas again for Thanksgiving week. I have noticed in my travels over the past three months, the POI file for Las Vegas Casinos is giving me wrong information.

While sitting in the parking lot at the Silverton Casino and asking for directions to the Silverton, my GPSr keeps telling me I have to travel 4 miles east and it would take an additional 10 minutes to arrive there. The same happened for the Orleans, Bally's and Palace Station.

I looked up the coordinates on Google Earth for the Orleans and they appear to be correct on the spreadsheet. Is it possible that when downloading to my GPSr, the order of the .csv data became corrupted or a value was missing?

I have downloaded the file twice for the past two trips and have gotten the same results. I don't think it is a problem with my receiver because I used the Las
Vegas Golf Course POI list and it found Boulder Creek in Boulder City without a hitch, and the travel between Tempe and Vegas has been correct each time.

I would really like to get this error corrected because even though I have been to Vegas at least 100 times, the traffic often makes it necessary to detour from my familiar routes and my NUVI would really help get me where I need to be.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and are there
any suggestions for correcting it?

Thanks.

.

I'm guessing that sitting in the parking lot of a POI and asking for directions to that same POI might confuse a GPSr (not to mention people). Has it ever acted this way when you asked for a destination other than the one at which you were sitting?

Not so "Honey"

bentbiker,

Yes it has. Each time I ask for a casino location in Las Vegas. I deliberately asked for the location while in the parking lot after getting errors at each of the other casinos. I was entering the parking lot at Red Rock in Summerlin and the NUVI was telling me I needed to travel an additional 5 miles Southeast to my destination.

Also, when I call up the list from let's for the sake of argument say the Silverton, the NUVI is showing the nearby casinos with erroneous distances and directions.

I am anxious to see if anyone else has encountered this problem with the file and how they might have corrected the situation.

When looking at a list of POIs, the distance displayed is the distance as the crow flies, not the driven distance; calculating routes and driven distances for an entire list would be much more difficult. Driven distances are only calculated after choosing a destination.

Again, the example of Red Rock is for a destination that you already reached. I must be misunderstanding . . .

bentbiker, Let's say I leave

bentbiker,

Let's say I leave the Strip after requesting directions to Red Rock Casino. From the time I start from the Strip, the NUVI is attempting to send me to a different casino. I continue to drive to Red Rock on a route I would normally take and upon arrival at Red Rock the NUVI is still announcing directions for some other casino rather than Red Rock Casino and calling it Red Rock. As I am parking at Red Rock Casino, the NUVI is still trying to send me 5 miles to the Southeast and calling that location Red Rock Casino.

Correct, I have reached the destination, but the NUVI is still attempting to send me to another location that it has calculated as being the Red Rock Casino.

The POI list for Las Vegas Golf Courses is right on target. Drive from the Strip to Boulder Creek and I am at Boulder Creek and not let's say Cascada or one of the other nearby courses in Boulder or Henderson.

Bad Coordinates

I discovered your problem. The POI coordinates are bad. I checked Silverton and Orleans and they are both way off from the actual locations. For example, the coordinates for the Orleans put it at Sierra Stone Lane, which is nowhere near W Tropicana Ave.

You should contact the POI creator and discuss the situation.

Too Many Red Rocks????

Looking up "Red Rock Casino, Las Vegas, NV on Google Maps shows three separate casinos, many miles apart. Could that be the problem?
