melted suction mount

the suction mount of my c330 melted/welded itseld onto my windshield. I called up Garmin and asked them if they heard of this before and the C.R. said no. the C.R. wound up sending me an entire new mount even though I have had my unit for almost 3 years now.

Melted?

By melted, do you mean the black rubber suction cup melted to the glass? If so, this has happened a lot. The fact your unit is three years old makes sense. That is about the time frame when Garmin had that problem. Many of us have experienced that issue and received a new suction mount from Garmin. If your customer support guy never heard of that before, he must be new with the company. How long did you leave the mount on the glass before you noticed the melting? If it has been on for 3 years and never been removed, I bet it was a mess.

Tell the customer rep to do a search right here in River City. Have him start at:

This was very common as Garmin had a problem with a bad rubber compound on the early suction cups. They replaced these free with the new suction cups.

What about a bean bag

From your posting we can assume the mount was in the summer sun for the whole 3 years. Have you looked at getting a bean bag mount? I bought one for my 750 and it allows me put the unit on the floor out of sight of would be thieves and protect the unit from the sun. I won't use the suction cup as everyone I've used has a tendancy to fall off the window. Garmin is one of the better but still can have problems.

Best to use the bean bag and take down off the dash when not in use.
