damaged mapfile Nuvi 350 Options?

In defragging the Nuvi drive I got the message the map file (2008) was damaged. I no longer get the streets on the display. I have had the unit since 12/2007.
What options are open to me? As a last resort can I simply buy and install the 2009 version?
any suggestions would be appreciated.

First of all, you shouldn't defrag you nuvi drive. It's not needed. And, as you discovered, it can cause problems.

I'm guessing that you didn't do a full backup of the drive before you began this operation. If you did, then you can copy the map file (GMAPPROM.IMG) from your computer.

If you don't have a backup, then call Garmin customer support. They will be able to assist you within restoring the map. Hopefully, they will offer to send you a disk that will restore you maps. Worst case scenario is that they will ask you to send it in so that they can restore the maps for you.

As to the 2009 question, if you went this route, you would have to purchase the FULL version as the update version will not work on a unit that doesn't already have the maps installed.

Lastly, you might check to see if the maps are just deselected. Wrench/Settings > Map > Map Info. This is a long shot if you got a message saying that the map file was damaged.

Good luck. And once you get your maps back. Be sure to BACK UP the entire nuvi drive to your computer. And don't try to defrag it anymore.

Garmin Support

The nuvi drive does not require defragging.

Did you back up all the files to your computer before you changed anything? If not, best bet would be to contact Garmin support and send the unit to them. You might have to pay for them to repair it. (Mostlikey they will just send you a different unit and toss your old one in the "to be repaired" bin. If you buy the new maps, they only update what you have, it's not the program so it will not work if the file is already damaged.

That's quick
