I am a truck driver and I bought a Garmin Nuvi 650 from Cosco. It worked good for Canada but when he started trips through US it couldn't show the right ways to destination. Most of the times when I was driving through a road it showed that there is road and it is calculating. I bought a 2009 map recently online, although I couldn't buy it online from US and I found gpscity.ca, It had the same problem and did not work out. Also this time it does not detour and sometimes when I turned it off and on again it changed the route. So I paid all for nothing. I bought Copilot Truck 11 for truck now and a laptop. again I can not find the laptop stand for truck in Canada, but I hope this time it works out.

If you turn off your GPS and turn it on again from a different location (specifically off your original route) it will recalculate. This is normal. Sometimes, due to roads/preferences (e.g. vehicle options)/avoidance settings etc., a different route maybe generated.
I was using my new nuvi 200 to drive to Buffalo, NY, from my hometown, a short, well-known route, acually. But I wanted to see if the nuvi would show me the same route I had planned. It did not and the more I kept going a different road than recommended (and the more it had to recalculate) the more confused the gps. It locked up while recalculating and never did show a new turn.
So I had to turn it off/back on to get a new sat. position and let it recalc from scratch. Later, I checked and I had it set to find the "shortest" route while I was traveling the "fastest" way there.
After changing that setting, it took me home the way I expected.
Point: If you have the North American mapset and you're still not finding roads, check this setting to make sure the gps is trying to guide you the way you expect it to.
