I have nuvi 350 and like to use the simulation mode to check out a route and alerts before driving it. However, the "speed" is very slow. Does anyone know if you can control the speed of the vehicle in simulation mode?
with appreciation
John
No
No, you cannot. However, you can set your location somewhere near the spot you want to test to speed things up.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
sorry I don't know
Interesting, has my attention.

It is invaluable for testing POIs to see whether they alert properly without actually driving to every location. Or if you want to test the pronunciation of a TTS announcement that you have re-written.

Good for alert checking...

Ya, for an entire route, it isn't very useful to watch the car drive it for you. However as pointed out, it is useful if you want to check an alert and set your position a bit before the alert to test if it goes off correctly as you approach.
As an aside, you can also set a starting point and then GO to another point and answer NO if you want to simulate driving the route. This let's you preview a calculated route to see how your unit is going to route you. You can then plan some waypoints or POIs in order to force the unit to choose a route more to your liking.

It's a Real time simulation adjusted for street type in route

It uses the normal speed for the street type in the simulation so basically it's real time simulation. I normally start near where I want to test to cut down on total time.

wish list feature
My previous magellan had a variable speed while in simulation - it was very useful. Without the ability to modify the speed during simulation, this feature is of very limited value to me.

Thank one and all for the helpful comments. Do appreciate them

Magellan got it right
I can't figure out why Garmin did not. I have never used this feature because I can't increase the speed.
