Chit Chat Thread for the week of September 08, 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

I have been down a bit over the last few days with the flu so if you have stuff in the content bin, I apologize for not getting it published yet.

I will be cleaning files in the morning.

Miss POI

Yes, please take care Miss POI. Hope you and the family feel better soon. Take care of yourself.

Ike's Gas Spike

3 cents... I wish, we get a 3 cent increase when the wind in Texas goes over 10 MPH.

This morning in Toronto we were all held up and robed blind with a 13 cent per liter increase.

In the Cleveland area, gas jumped 24 cents per gallon in two days, and 30 cents in less than a week!

Gas went up 60 cents a gallon in less than 3 hours here today.

No gas spike here yet

But I'm not taking any chances.

I filled up today, which should last me through any short-term spike. If the refineries go offline much longer, we'll have to deal with it then.

Ike is knocking on the door. The wind is getting stornger all the time. No rain yet.

Ike, Yikes!

I just called my baby sister in the University of Houston neighborhood. They've lost power and the wind is picking up, but they're safe. With everything boarded up, they are spending the sleepless night, walking around with candles in their hands.

Hunker down, y'all. Hang tight, and be safe!

Gas

WOW, gasoline price going down!

The gas went up as much as 12 cents a litre here in Calgary on Thursday. I paid $1.38.9 a litre to fill my tank. I drove about 2 km. down the road and it was still $1.24.9 at that gas bar. Oh well it cost about $100.00 to fill my van now. I guess I'll just have to make each trip count and get it all done at once.

Canada's Gas Prices expected to Soar

Canada's Gas Prices expected to Soar
Saturday, September 13, 2008
Vancouver Sun -- Gas prices were expected to jump as much as 13 cents a litre across Canada and parts of Metro Vancouver over the weekend as Hurricane Ike threatened to strike U.S. refineries along the Texas coast. Drivers in some parts of the country, including Greater Victoria, already faced soaring gas prices Friday because of the storm. Gas prices at the pumps around Victoria leapt 13 cents to $1.52 a litre overnight Thursday from $1.38 -- the average price at the pumps for drivers in Metro Vancouver Friday.

Gas/Petrol in Canada

Educate this ignorant American, please.

1. Is the automotive fuel called "gas" or "petrol" north of the 49th parallel?

2. Where does the gasoline supply come from in Canada? Do you get crude for domestic refineries? Do you import refined fuel from U.S.? Do you have any major refinery area similar to the Gulf Coast?

3. Is it "Do you have" or "have you" when asking whether a person possess something?

I've always refueled before taking the MV Coho to Victoria, eh?

You're kidding, right?

I was not going to vote this year for president but now I am thanks to Palin.

The charter company I work for sent five 61 passenger buses to TX at the request of FIMA. All logs where waved for this. I am in TX right now and been here for a week and man it is a mess. The interstates have be clean before we can take anyone home. All I can do is pray for them and do what I can if you see a Sun Diego Charter bus say hi one of them is me. Happy Monday

It may be a Black Monday but I had a great weekend! Weather held up for my family apple-picking trip--a good time was had by all.

Ike Gas Impact

I have seen prices go up 60 to 90 cents since Friday. Many stations are closed with no gas. I have heard some question are they out of gas or just closed to be able to open back up with much higher prices on the cheaper gas they had in their tanks. Now that would be price gouging.

Went to the Ontario Airport

Went to the Ontario Airport last week and found diesel for $3.89. I was happy-- Something is wrong to enjoy only paying $3.89- when a few years ago it was close to a dollar. Some stations are still charging $5 for diesel.
